CNC Manual Machine Operator
Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday
Pay Range: $24.15 – $29.78 per hour, depending on experience
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Manual Machine Operator to join our team in Des Moines, IA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining within a production environment and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. This role involves operating, setting up, and maintaining manual CNC machines to produce high-quality parts meeting precise specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Follow direction from supervisors and leadership.
Operate CNC and manual milling machines and lathes; set up and adjust machine programs and equipment.
Read, interpret, and work from blueprints and drawings to manufacture parts to specification.
Maintain prescribed tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges.
Perform daily machine maintenance and keep work areas clean following 5S principles.
Interpret and follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistency.
Utilize programming software for CNC machines.
Safely rig and position heavy equipment using jib hoists and overhead cranes.
Uphold all safety procedures and policies, using personal protective equipment as required.
Participate in Lean manufacturing and ISO quality environments.
Suggest improvements for processes and contribute to a positive team environment.
Communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers, management, and customers.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a machining role within a production environment.
Proficient with measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges, etc.).
Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints.
Experience using Mastercam (preferred).
Previous experience in Lean manufacturing and/or ISO-certified facility (preferred).
Familiar with the properties of metals and alloys and selecting proper tools, feeds, and speeds.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Competencies
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to select, grind, or modify tools for specific tasks.
Proficient in shop mathematics and use of charts/tables.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Creative, solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, sit, and move for extended periods.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient for handling machinery, tools, and detailed work.
Ability to safely handle and position heavy parts.
Must be able to effectively communicate ideas and instructions both verbally and in writing.
