Support the Work That Keeps Iowa’s Animal Health System Running

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated professional to support the Animal Industry Bureau during a critical licensing and program cycle.

In this role, you will help ensure veterinarians across Iowa are properly licensed, animal health programs operate smoothly, and essential data is accurate and reliable. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work, thinking critically, and contributing to meaningful public service.

What You’ll Do

This role blends administrative support, data management, and process ownership. Your work will directly support statewide veterinary licensing and animal health initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Review and process veterinary license applications and renewals, ensuring all requirements are met according to established protocols

  • Support the annual license renewal cycle by sending notices, receiving applications, and processing payments

  • Process vaccine approvals by verifying eligibility and coordinating communication with veterinary offices

  • Enter, clean, and audit data across multiple systems to ensure accuracy and consistency

  • Support the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) program by organizing, reviewing, and improving data quality

  • Locate and verify records across internal databases, shared drives, and external systems (e.g., AAVSB portal)

  • Provide professional and helpful communication when responding to questions or requests

What Success Looks Like

  • Licensing and renewal processes are completed accurately and on time

  • Data is clean, organized, and reliable

  • You are able to manage your workload independently and follow detailed processes with confidence

  • Stakeholders receive timely, clear communication

You’ll be successful in this role if you:

  • Take ownership of your work and follow through with minimal oversight

  • Have strong attention to detail and can accurately review and process information

  • Are comfortable working within structured processes and systems

  • Use critical thinking to identify issues and ensure requirements are met

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with a variety of audiences

Helpful experience to have:

  • Experience in administrative support, data entry, or licensing/credentialing work

  • Experience working with databases or multiple systems

  • Customer service or public-facing experience

Position Details

  • Schedule:Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (with some flexibility as needed)

  • Duration:This position is expected to last approximately 6 months

  • Pay: $22/hour

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Opportunity to step into a defined body of work and make an immediate impact

  • Clear responsibilities with established processes while still requiring independent thinking

  • Exposure to statewide regulatory and agricultural programs

  • Ideal for someone looking for meaningful, short-term experience
