Position Summary:
The Pathologist Assistant II is responsible for maintenance of necessary files and records, assuring the identity of specimens from receiving to final storage. Daily oversight of Anatomical Pathology workflow and processes. The Pathologist Assistant II assists with ongoing training and/or precepting of new and current employees as directed by the manager. Pathology Assistant II is responsible for ensuring new processes, equipment and other changes are communicated and/or taught to other Pathology Assistants. Reports to Laboratory manager regarding workflow or technical issues.
Education and Experience:
· Master’s or Bachelor’s degree of health science as a Pathologist Assistant from an accredited formal Pathology Assistant Training Program or;
· Medical doctoral degree with post-doctoral training in Anatomical Pathology or;
· 3-5 years of experience and Master’s or bachelor’s degree in a chemical; physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
· Minimum- 5 years of experience and Associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or at least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: Six semester hours of chemistry; Six semester hours of biology; and Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
Certification/License:
· Possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
· Meet CLIA ’88 personnel standards for high complexity testing.
· Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, preferred.
