Job Description:

Oversees routine histology functions, including processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining. May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment. Coordinates workflow daily to ensure timely analysis. Resolves staff issues and recommends disciplinary actions as needed. Supervises histotechnologists, technicians, and assistants in processing tissue biopsy specimens. Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines. This role encompasses full scope personnel management, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and corrective action, to foster a high-performing and collaborative work environment. Performs, assigns, and oversees as necessary pre and post analytical activities related to anatomic pathology tests assigned including specimen collection and processing, Quality Control, equipment maintenance, inventory control, Quality Assurance and proficiency testing procedures. Observes routine patient test performances, including patient preparation, specimen handling, and testing. Monitors tissue specimens for microscopic examinations. May perform photographic procedures and diagnostic/analytic specimen testing. Ensures analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods. May assist with Standard Operating Procedures and document control Assists leadership in promoting team building and employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and a culture of safety for employees and patients. Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to adequately inspect equipment settings to ensure adherence with safety standards

• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports/correspondence related to the managed care services

• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry

• Ability to effectively communicate appropriately and effectively in written and verbal English with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals

• Technical skills and aptitudes related to anatomic pathology, procedures and processes performed in department or work area assigned

• Able to read text and numbers in English, and comprehend, measure, reason, match, problem solve, under supervision

• Able to apply accurately learned computer related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices

• Mature, independent professional judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within Hospital guidelines and applicable regulations

• Able to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations and handle multiple priorities and projects

• Follows and ensures adherence of staff to all rules and regulations of applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all times

• Ability to work independently and adapt to varying priorities, including directing workflow with minimal supervision

• Ability to maintain equipment/records and perform quality assessment activities

• Ability to operate computer systems to maintain patient documentation, testing records, and other related documents

• Ability to educate and train new staff in medical laboratory settings

• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English

• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products

• Working knowledge of Anatomic Pathology application software such as Cerner Millennium or Copath (preferred)

• Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, which addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety age-appropriate needs of the patient populations served within the department

Education:

• Associate [Required]

• Bachelor's [Preferred]

Field of Study:

• in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR education equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR qualified and served as testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024. Required

Work Experience:

• 1+ year of leadership experience [Preferred]

• 3+ years of technical experience [Required]

Pay Range:

$35.78 - $66.55
