Job Description

This role operates a variety of heavy equipment on civil, commercial, industrial, and geotechnical construction projects that focus on specialty foundations and ground improvement. You will support the installation of earth retention systems and specialty foundation elements while performing both equipment operation and hands-on construction labor in outdoor, field-based environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, skid steers, backhoes, mini excavators, dozers (including mini dozers such as D3), drills, forklifts, water trucks, and other site equipment on geotechnical and earthwork projects.

  • Perform approximately 50% of the time operating equipment and 50% performing physical labor and general construction tasks as project needs require.

  • Support specialty foundation work by operating tieback drills and soil nail equipment, as well as concrete pumps and micropile equipment when needed.

  • Dig and trench to project specifications and safely move materials onsite, including lumber, rock, and soil.

  • Unload beams and trucks, cut beams to length, and handle materials safely and efficiently.

  • Place, dump, and compact rock and other backfill materials to support earth retention and ground improvement systems.

  • Perform concrete and cement-related tasks as part of foundation and ground improvement work.

  • Operate vibratory equipment and other tools to compact materials and support structural stability.

  • Follow daily safety orientations and execute tasks as assigned by site supervision, maintaining a strong commitment to safety procedures and site rules.

  • Work on labor-intensive tasks when required, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to assist with all aspects of the project.

  • Travel to various project sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including a small percentage of night work as needed.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment on civil, geotechnical, earthwork, or commercial construction projects.

  • Proficiency operating equipment such as front-end loaders, skid steers, backhoes, mini excavators, dozers, drills, forklifts, and water trucks.

  • Ability to perform both equipment operation and physical labor, with roughly half of the workday spent on each.

  • Experience working with concrete, cement, and general construction materials in a field environment.

  • Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions and on active construction sites.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform sustained physical work on labor-intensive projects.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to different project locations and work a small portion of shifts at night (approximately 10% of the time).

  • Commitment to following safety procedures and participating in daily safety orientations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating forklifts and skid steers in a construction or geotechnical setting.

  • Experience concrete labor, skilled labor, or general labor on heavy civil or industrial projects.

  • Familiarity with geotechnical construction activities, including earth retention, soil nails, tiebacks, and ground improvement techniques.

  • Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as John Deere and Komatsu.

  • Ability to adapt to different tasks and project types, including commercial, civil, and industrial environments.

Work Environment

The work takes place on active civil, commercial, industrial, and geotechnical construction sites where specialty foundation elements and ground improvement systems are designed and installed. Projects focus on earth retention, soil nails, tiebacks, and sculpted systems that support and hold back slopes. Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and involves both equipment operation and physically demanding labor. Days typically begin with a safety orientation, followed by task assignments from site supervision. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with regular use of heavy equipment such as loaders, skid steers, backhoes, dozers, drills, forklifts, water trucks, and concrete-related equipment. A small portion of the work, around 10%, may occur at night, and employees travel regularly to different project locations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Denver, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
