Serco Engineering Intern - (Part-Time/Temp) in Denver, Colorado

Position Description & Qualifications

Our 2026 internship opportunities are available throughout the summer in the U.S. You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you, working up to 40 hours a week.

Serco offers an exciting internship opportunity in the Advanced Technologies Group (ATG). ATG’s AI/ML Research and Development Team is responsible for developing innovative machine learning technologies that both solve our customer’s challenges and contribute to the growth of the company. As a Machine Learning Intern, you will join a dynamic team of research scientists and software engineers that develop innovative machine learning technologies to address some of the nation’s most challenging problems. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is innovative and driven by challenging technical problems.

Our team develops a wide range of capabilities addressing our customer’s challenges, with a focus on machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that can either augment or replace human tasks and workflows. We specialize in Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs), computer vision technologies, operational AI for situational awareness and command and control, data fusion, and the innovative user interface / user experience (UI/UX) systems that are necessary for effective human-machine teaming.

Over the course of the summer, you will be part of a small (2-5 member team) that works closely with our customers and other teams to deliver innovative systems to the U.S. military. We are seeking computer science, engineering or other science majors to contribute to our research & development efforts, particularly in the areas of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Your internship experience will be guided by the Principal Research Scientist and other technical leads on our team.

In this role, you will:

  • Be assigned a project that is significant to our ongoing contracts with the U.S. military, appropriately scoped for a summer intern. The project may be a group project with other interns.

  • Work with members of the AI/ML team to frame the problem, design the solution, develop the code to implement it, and test and evaluate its effectiveness. Software will likely be written in Python and/or Java.

  • Package and deliver software for the target environment using standard DevOps principles.

  • Collaborate with co-workers, leadership, and clients to understand client problems, identify solutions, and demonstrate software solutions.

  • Participate in internal and client-defined agile software development processes.

  • Write technical software documentation and explain your software design and implementation to co-workers, clients, and partners.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A High School Diploma/GED

  • Be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline from an accredited university

  • Ideal candidates are rising sophomores, juniors or seniors

  • Have a working knowledge of Python and/or Java

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Be a strong team player who can effectively contribute to project development

  • This position is contingent upon your ability to pass a background check and drug screen

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Experience with, or course work in, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivated with a strong work initiative and attention to detail

For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets. In addition to base salary, eligible positions may include other forms of compensation such as annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
