The Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is expanding our hospital by adding 16 forensic beds to our current 138 patient beds. This expansion will assist in our mission of providing Colorado with the best behavioral health care available. CMHHIFL is dedicated to meeting the needs of the community by providing mental health treatment to the adult population in the metro area. About the this unit:
Support Services works to interface with internal customers, community agencies, vendors, and community groups to meet the goals and objectives of support functions, hospital operations, and safety and security at CMHHIFL.
The Safety Department exists to maintain the safety , security, and transportation needs of the CMHHIFL hospital. . Duties of the Safety Department include maintaining a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors, providing assistance to the
clinical staff in the various types of patient treatment programs, assisting with the management of aggressive/assaultive individuals, and monitoring and evaluating the impact of applicable laws and regulations. The Safety Department staff follows accepted practices including policies and procedures. The department supports patient care and the safety of buildings, grounds, equipment, occupants, and internal physical systems. This work unit reports and resolves situations that pose a threat to life, health, or property.
Job Assignment / Purpose of Position:
Job Duties:
To lead and assist in provision of a safe environment in which patients of civil commitment may be transported to/from on-grounds and off-grounds appointments, hospital activities, and other meetings and/or required transportation needs by oversight of trained personnel. CSO Transportation staff will provide necessary movements to and from medical appointments, cafeteria treatment mall, clinical activities, court visitations, personal appointments of therapeutic needs, in partnership with appropriate additional hospital personnel/nursing/clinical staff as required. Visitation support will be provided as available.
Assist in Supervision of Communications Staff and Transport Team Staff :
This position assists to provide work leaders duties to include the monitoring and supporting work standards of the CYSO/Transport Team staff in conjunction with the CSO III and/or the appointing authority. Train, mentor and coach staff in assuring implementation of CYSO/Transport Team policy and procedures. Ensures sufficient coverage on each shift is available for assignment by scheduling and rearranging schedules to meet the minimum requirement to maintain business needs in conjunction with departmental standards. Communicates scheduled assignments and changes to the Transport Team CSO III and Director of Safety and/or Chief Support Services Officer. Interview applicants and recommend selections for hire, promotion, and/or transfer. Ensure all interactions with staff and patients are professional, clear, consistent, and transparent to establish and maintain the level and quality of communication, fostering support of facility goals and objectives.
Transport of Patients/Escorting Patient(s) to Designated Activities/Appointments:
To provide safe, efficient, coordinated patient care transport via escorting patients and providing observational, direct site line, and/or physical control (as a last resort) of patients in provision of patient movement to/from designation of on grounds and off grounds activities and appointments. As a work lead, provides training/modeling to subordinate staff on departmental protocols regarding patient transportation.
Scheduling :
Assists Transport Team CSO III in scheduling coordination responsibilities of the Transport Team and Communications/Operators. As a member of the Transport Team, ensure on-going communication with Nursing Department and Clinical Staff to provide scheduling services needed for CMHHIFL patients. Ensures appropriate relaying of information between Nursing Department and Transport Team staff. Assists in the supervision of staffing patterns for completion of patient-related transports. Ensures the reservations of transportation are completed for all patient-related transports while on shift. Ensures communication amongst staff in different departments maintains a positive, pro-active approach to avoid missed transports. In the assisting supervision of the Operators, must ensure appropriate communication with the Safety Department for any coverage responsibilities given the 24/7 nature of the positions and emergency operations associated, in addition to the cross coverage coordination with the CYSO team within the Safety Department.
Searches and Other Duties as Assigned :
Following transports, this position will ensure adequate patient searches are completed prior to the patient returning to the unit. Furthermore, in addition to searches and the work assignments listed above, the position will perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
One (1) year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
Substitutions: Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
These positions are not sedentary positions. Employees are typically on their feet during the entire shift. Staff must be able to complete, pass, and participate in CPI techniques for patient management needs. Preferred Qualifications:
College education in a behavioral health and/or justice related field.
Experience working with adjudicated and/or detained within a secure residential facility and/or a behavioral health setting
Experience utilizing verbal de-escalation and motivational techniques. Experience in motivating and managing staff
Experience in scheduling for a 24/7 entity as a shift lead
Strong organizational skills
Strong attention to detail

Work Environment:
The typical shift for this position will be 10 am-6 pm. Employees may be required to work shift hours. This includes evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may vary between agencies and may include eight (8) hours, ten (10) hours, or twelve (12) hours in duration. Overtime may be requested . As a Correctional Youth Security Officer, your position is considered essential and you may be required to report to work during inclement weather.
