Job Title: Avionics Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on performing complex, classified heavy modifications on various fixed-wing military aircraft. You will remove existing avionics systems, install new wire harnesses throughout the aircraft, and terminate a wide range of connectors to support advanced mission systems. The position offers long-term, open-ended contract work with the opportunity to transition to a direct role, and provides the chance to support critical defense programs while working in a professional, climate-controlled hangar environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform classified heavy modifications on various fixed-wing military aircraft in accordance with engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and program requirements.

  • Remove existing avionics and electrical systems from aircraft, ensuring proper documentation and safe handling of all components.

  • Install new wire harnesses throughout the aircraft, routing wiring cleanly and securely through multiple sections and systems.

  • Terminate and assemble dozens of different types of electrical and avionics connectors, including coaxial and other specialized connector types.

  • Use multiple types of crimping tools (at least three or more) to perform precise terminations that meet aviation and depot-level maintenance standards.

  • Read, interpret, and work from wiring schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical data to complete installations and modifications accurately.

  • Perform avionics repair, installation, and aircraft modification tasks as needed to support aviation heavy maintenance and depot-level maintenance operations.

  • Troubleshoot avionics and electrical issues using appropriate test equipment and documentation to identify and resolve faults.

  • Apply soldering techniques where required to ensure reliable electrical connections that comply with aviation standards.

  • Support aircraft maintenance and modification activities on multiple airframes, including U-28 (Pilatus PC-12), C-147 (DHC-8/Dash 8/Q200/Q300/Q400), C-146 (Dornier 328), C-145 (M-28 Skytruck), and A-29 (Super Tucano).

  • Follow all FAA-regulated procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements within a controlled hangar environment.

  • Maintain personal tools in a shadowed toolbox with tools etched or color-marked, and ensure they are available and organized by the first day of work.

  • Collaborate with team members, leads, and on-site representatives to meet program schedules and support changing shift or program needs.

  • Document work performed as required by company, customer, and regulatory standards, ensuring accurate and complete records of all maintenance and modification activities.

Essential Skills

  • At least 4 years of hands-on avionics experience in an aircraft maintenance, modification, or heavy maintenance environment.

  • Proven experience terminating avionics and electrical connectors on aircraft systems.

  • Demonstrated experience working with several different types of crimpers (at least three or more) for aviation wiring and connectors.

  • Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation for avionics and electrical systems.

  • Experience with avionics repair, avionics installation, and aircraft modification tasks.

  • Background in aviation heavy maintenance or depot-level maintenance on aircraft.

  • Proficiency working with wiring harnesses, including fabrication, routing, and installation throughout the aircraft.

  • Experience working with coaxial connectors and other specialized avionics connectors.

  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on avionics and electrical systems using wiring diagrams and test procedures.

  • Ownership of a complete personal tool set with a shadowed toolbox, with tools etched or color-marked by the first day of work.

  • Work history that reflects at least somewhat stable employment without frequent short-term contract hopping.

  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance through the employer’s process.

  • Ability to pass an FAA-regulated drug test.

  • Ability to pass a 7-year Background check.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior avionics installation experience on fixed-wing aircraft.

  • Experience supporting long-term aviation programs and an interest in building a long-term career with opportunities for growth.

  • Familiarity with aircraft electronics, avionics systems, and avionics electrical integration.

  • Experience performing aircraft maintenance and aircraft modification in a regulated environment.

  • Comfort working on multiple airframes such as U-28 (Pilatus PC-12), C-147 (DHC-8/Dash 8/Q200/Q300/Q400), C-146 (Dornier 328), C-145 (M-28 Skytruck), and A-29 (Super Tucano).

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality when performing crimping, soldering, and wiring tasks.

  • Ability to work flexibly across different shifts (primarily first shift with some second shift) based on program needs.

  • Interest in supporting mission-driven work that focuses on integrating advanced technology onto military aircraft.

Work Environment

Work takes place in a climate-controlled, FAA-regulated hangar environment designed for high-quality aircraft maintenance and modification. You will work on various fixed-wing military aircraft platforms and use professional aviation tools, multiple types of crimpers, and standard avionics test and installation equipment. Shifts vary by hangar and program, with most employees on first (day) shift and a portion on second (swing) shift; some teams work four 10-hour days while others work five 8-hour days. There are no weekend shifts, although overtime is often available based on program needs, without being guaranteed every week. The contract is long-term and open-ended, with the possibility of converting to a direct role after several months of successful performance. The environment is structured, safety-focused, and compliant with FAA and program regulations, supporting detailed, high-precision avionics work on mission-critical aircraft systems.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $40.00/hr.
