CBRE Americas Data Centers Technical Director in Denver, Colorado
JOB SUMMARY
TheTechnical Director is responsible for leading the Technical function within theData Center Solutions (DCS) America’s (AMS) Division. They drivestandardization of best practices, champion technical solutions, and promoteinnovation across our data center network, spanning traditionalenterprise environments through to large-scale hyperscale and neo-cloudcampuses. Their role includessetting the Divisional Technical Strategy, leading the Technical Team indeveloping Technical Processes, assisting in reviewing Technical ComplianceReports, mentoring, and growing the engineering knowledge of the technicalbusiness unit staff. They also ensure operational alignment and knowledgesharing across the AMS region and promote the correct implementation of rulesand procedures for safe working underpinned by full compliance with theCBRE DCS global risk management frameworks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotesand advances the Critical Environment & Risk Management (CERM) model andstandards, with the primary objective of ensuring efficient and safe operationand maintenance of engineering systems to achieve 100% data center availabilityand uptime.
Facilitatesthe implementation, adoption, and integration of the CERM model processes intodaily operations.
Overseesthe roll-out, adoption and use of all CBRE DCS global risk management toolsinto the data center environment.
Acts as divisional subject matter expert for advancedcooling technologies, including direct-to-chip liquid cooling, immersioncooling and rear-door heat exchangers, providing technical guidance to siteteams and supporting new business proposals as the DCS Americas portfoliocontinues to expand into higher-density compute environments.
Provides strategic oversight and day-to-day direction forthe divisional team of Technical Managers (typically 5–6), aligned to thebusiness units, setting clear technical standards, driving consistent riskmanagement practice, and supporting professional development across the team.
Supportsbusiness unit leadership with new opportunities for site visits as technicalexpert, producing reports on initial visits, highlighting any latent technicalrisks, advising on contract improvements and championing technical excellence.
Mentorsbusiness unit technical staff in ensuring engineering and operational bestpractices are exercised across the division.
Supports,and where necessary leads, incident response & investigations and rootcause analysis across the AMS division as required, reviewing data and learningfrom experience documents to be shared internally/externally.
Drives operational compliance across the business to meetservice-level standards.
Directs the continuing review of present systems andmethods, as well as the formulation of new and revised systems; determinesappropriate changes to effect improvements, reduce costs, and enhanceefficiency.
Providestechnical support to the CBRE Projects Team in scope and specification reviewsand supports planning of high risk works and creation of initial scopingdocumentation.
Provides clients and business unit technical staff withdesign reviews of existing systems to offer options for increasing systemresilience and energy reduction opportunities.
Assists the Business Development teams as a technicalsubject matter expert during conversations with prospects to enable growth forthe company.
Maintains professional contacts with other organizations,research institutions, service providers, and software or equipmentmanufacturers concerning support and lifecycle management.
Collaborates actively with Technical Directors in the UK,EMEA and APAC divisions to align technical standards, share operationallearnings across the global portfolio, and contribute to global technicalinitiatives led by the Global Technical & Reliability Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of the Technical Director includes overseeing theplanning, organization, and controls for the technical team within CBRE DCS AMS.This role has a mix of direct reports and matrix reports. They have theauthority to approve recommendations from subordinates regarding staffrecruitment, selection, promotion, corrective action, and termination. Theyalso provide recommendations for their direct reports to the next level ofmanagement for review and approval. They provide leadership and support to staffin areas such as staffing, selection, training, development, coaching,mentoring, performance measurement, appraisal, and retention. The Director setsan example by demonstrating behaviors that align with the company's values.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college oruniversity and a minimum of ten years of related experience, including fiveyears of experience at the management level, in operational Data Center Environments.Experience in hyperscale or large-campus (100MW+) data center environments isstrongly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of data rooms, critical systems andcomplex HV and LV systems.
High level of competency and understanding of data centerelectrical infrastructure.
Comprehensive understanding of HVAC systems and plantoperations within data centers, including latest developments surroundingin-rack and direct-to-chip cooling solutions, immersion cooling, rear-door heatexchangers, and the thermal management requirements of high-performance computeand GPU-dense AI workloads.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the mostcomplex business documents. Ability to respond effectively to the mostsensitive issues. Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articlesusing distinctive style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentationson complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups.Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key employees, topmanagement, and client groups to take desired action.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a varietyof options in complex situations. Requires expert level analytical andquantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutionsfor a growing matrix-based environment. Draws upon the analysis of others andmakes recommendations that have a direct impact on the company.
CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Data Center Technical Director position is $220,000 annually and the maximum salary of $250,000 annually . The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on their skills, qualifications, and experience.
