Job Summary:
In this role, you’ll be part of a dedicated team responsible for maintaining and repairing railroad bridges—critical structures that keep rail operations safe and reliable. Working under the guidance of the Bridge Foreman or General Manager, you’ll perform hands-on tasks that ensure the integrity and performance of these essential assets. Responsibilities:
Perform daily activities of a bridge crew including bridge maintenance and repairs
Unload and/or assist in unloading and distributing materials (rail, ties, spikes, etc.)
Correct deviations in bridge surface, alignment, and gage
Install and repair wood trestles and wood structures
Operate tools such as rail saw, track wrench, spike maul, tie adz, and claw bar as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Full-time (40 plus hours weekly) – work schedule is typically 8 days on /6 days off
Varying schedule in a 24/7 work environment that includes nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call as needed
Outdoor work in all weather conditions
Walking on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders and equipment always ensuring three points of contact
Working at elevated heights of 12 feet or greater while adhering to fall protection safety guidelines
Frequent lifting of equipment and tools that could be up to 50 pounds
Skills and Experience:
At least 2 years of work experience
Previous experience with heavy hand tools and outdoor work is a plus
Knowledge of roadway-worker protection regulations
Past experience working with fall protection; familiarity with FRA fall-protection regulations is a plus
Able to work in a team environment that is safety sensitive
Able to read and interpret documents including safety rules, manuals, and regulations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)
Possess situational awareness and decision-making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environment
Required Education and Credentials:
High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Valid driver’s license
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus or able to obtain one if required
At least 18 years of age
Employment Requirements:
Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
Subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history
Relocation:
Candidates should live within 500 miles of assigned location. Employees are required to travel to assigned work location for start of rotation and receive mileage reimbursement following the company reimbursement guidelines.
