Job Title: Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic/Forklift Mechanic

Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:00am start

Required: Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic (or potentially Red Seal Millwright)
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining and repairing a fleet of propane, diesel, and some electric forklifts that support a high-volume veneer manufacturing operation. You will serve as the primary mechanic for all forklifts on site, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently to keep production running smoothly.
Responsibilities
Perform breakdown repairs and preventive maintenance on a fleet of approximately 18–20 forklifts, including Linde, BYD, Kalmar, and Hyundai models.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues on primarily propane and diesel forklifts, with some work on electric forklifts.
Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Troubleshoot forklift performance issues and determine effective repair solutions in a busy, fast-paced environment.
Carry out heavy-duty mechanical repairs, including components related to engines, drivetrains, brakes, hydraulics, and lifting systems.
Use appropriate tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical documentation to complete repairs accurately and efficiently.
Maintain clear and accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed on each forklift.
Collaborate closely with the production and maintenance teams to prioritize work orders and respond quickly to urgent breakdowns.
Work safely around operating machinery and conveyors in a loud, dusty manufacturing facility.
Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and recommending maintenance or equipment improvements.
Work both independently as the main mechanic for the fleet and collaboratively within the broader maintenance team.
Be available for overtime and occasional weekend work when production demands require additional support.
Required Skills
Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification.
Proven experience performing repairs and maintenance on forklifts, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Strong skills in forklift repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting, including heavy-duty mechanical work.
Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance programs for material-handling equipment.
Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems on forklifts.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Good English communication skills, including the ability to understand work orders and convey technical information clearly.
Comfort working in a busy, loud, and dusty industrial environment.
Willingness and ability to work overtime and some weekends when required, and to be flexible with shift times.
Nice to Have Additional Skills & Qualifications
Electronic and electrical troubleshooting experience.
Experience working on electric forklifts.
Computer and electronic repair experience.
Experience with electrical forklift repair or strong knowledge of electric forklift systems.
Welding experience and the ability to perform welding repairs when needed.
Additional experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronic repair in an industrial setting.
Strong teamwork mindset and a positive attitude when working with a diverse, multicultural team.

Work Environment
This position is based in a busy veneer manufacturing facility where sheets of veneer move through conveyors, dryers, and grading stations before being stacked and shipped. The environment is fast paced, loud, and dusty, with machines running throughout the day. The total site team is about 110 people, with a maintenance team of approximately 19, and the crew is known for being tenured, cooperative, and multicultural. The standard schedule is Monday to Friday, roughly 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some flexibility required on start and end times. You must be willing and able to work overtime and occasionally come in on weekends when needed. Statutory holidays are generally worked unless booked off in advance, with Christmas as the primary scheduled closure. The role involves working around operating machinery and material-handling equipment, following appropriate safety procedures and using personal protective equipment as required.
