Job Overview The Asphalt Crew Foreman will oversee and coordinate the activities of a paving crew engaged in asphalt paving, resurfacing, and repair projects. This role involves managing daily operations on-site, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The Asphalt Crew Foreman will be responsible for operating and maintain heavy equipment when crew is unable to, supervise crew members, and ensure adherence to project specifications and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Crew Supervision: Lead and manage a paving crew, assign tasks, provide direction, and ensuring efficient teamwork to meet project deadlines.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain paving equipment, including asphalt pavers, rollers, skid steers, and other machinery, to complete paving tasks effectively.
- Project Coordination: Read and interpret construction plans, coordinate daily activities, and ensure work aligns with project specifications, grades, and depths.
- Quality Control: Monitor the quality of asphalt application, including preparatory work, paving patterns, compaction, and material consistency, to meet industry standards.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce OSHA/MSHA safety regulations, maintain a safe work environment, and conduct daily pre- and post-inspections of equipment.
- Problem Solving: Address on-site challenges, troubleshoot equipment issues, and implement solutions to keep projects on track.
- Communication: Maintain clear communication with crew members, operations, and Director of Operations to report progress, issues, or material needs.
- Training: Assist in training less experienced crew members on equipment operation, safety protocols, and paving techniques.

* Qualifications *
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in road construction or asphalt paving, with at least 2--3 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferred (e.g., as a paver operator or crew lead).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; certificate programs in heavy equipment operation are a plus but not required.
- Licenses: Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred. Must have an insurable driving record.
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of asphalt paving processes, including grades, drainage, and compaction.
