Position Summary

Transform product concepts to manufacturable product utilizing design standards, materials analysis and engineering methods. Develop detailed 3-D models, 2-D drawings, and specifications for mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems using computer assisted drafting (CAD), with minimal supervision. Work dynamically with sales, design, procurement, manufacturing, and field installation to refine designs for best total solution. Lead product design reviews. Support project work with incoming orders, including project management, teamwork and technical support for planning and building custom and/ or prototype assemblies. Verify products with performance testing and maintain design documentation.

    Job Duties

  • Take the vision of sales and design and translate this into a manufacturable product. Consult early in the design process to lend feedback to ensure we can deliver on our promises to the customer (internal and external).

  • Develop 3-D models of parts, weldments, and assemblies. Consider product aesthetics during design and modeling process.

  • Create detailed 2-D drawings to support manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly.

  • Create and assign part numbers; create bills of material, complete routings, and cost estimates for products so manufacturing can be completed in a timely manner.

  • Interfaces with suppliers, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to assure designs meet objectives for quality, performance, schedule, costs, and manufacturability (DFMA).

  • Responsible for assuring designs meet all safety and regulatory requirements.

  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, manufacturing processes, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete designs and drawings.

  • Support planning and builds of custom and/or prototype assemblies.

  • Creates and maintains project schedules to ensure projects meet established timelines.

  • Works closely with the rest of the team to understand production capabilities and opportunities.

  • Confers with customer to identify the root cause of problems that develops with design and implement corrective actions through engineering change orders (ECOs).

  • Maintains a dependable and predictable work attendance and productivity record.

  • Support product testing as needed, including assessing customer feedback on products to identify the root cause of problems that develops with design and implement corrective actions; participate in completing failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).

Job Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, state aquatic health codes and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to effectively work with cross functional teams.

  • Scheduling projects and managing time effectively

  • Use of SolidWorks, AutoCAD

  • Operate with minimal supervision and/or engineering support.

  • Able to handle multiple projects and tasks, possess flexibility to shift priorities while being detail oriented and insuring accuracy.

  • Excellent people and communication skills

  • Ability to solve practical problems and be resourceful when working to find the best solution.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree required, Mechanical Engineering or related technical focus preferred.

  • Minimum of four years of work experience in design engineering.

  • Strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles and concepts.

  • Proficient use in AutoCAD and SolidWorks 3D.

  • Experience with stainless steel highly preferred.

  • Ability to use standard office software such as MS Word and Excel.

  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software preferred.

  • Experience with surfacing/contouring in a SolidWorks environment preferred.

    The starting target salary range is $78,000 - $97,000, depending upon qualifications and experience. The posted pay range reflects the expected compensation for a fully qualified candidate. Starting pay may be above or below this range based on job-related factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and training needs.

    In addition to base salary, the compensation package also includes eligibility for a profit-sharing opportunity.
