REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent and one of the following: Holds an Associates (or higher) degree; or Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 hours); or Completion of the VCS substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of the date of hire
DESCRIPTION
- Knowledge and ability to understand child development concepts
- Treat students and parents/ families with respect
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and student records as stated in the Family Right to Privacy Act (FRPA)
- Project a positive image regarding the program, the students enrolled in the program and the school
- Follow directions and assist in meeting the needs of the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student
- Work productively and enthusiastically with children, teachers and parents
- Assist with instructional tasks and activities that are developed by the teacher
- Technical skills to assist in classroom instruction preferred
- Technical skills to facilitate development of critical life-skills and program documentation under teacher supervision is preferred
- Assist with life-skill activities that are developed by the teacher
- Understand the unique challenges of children and families in need
- Written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and publications
- Planning and organizational skills
- Accurately assess objective evaluations for teacher review and recording
- Work cooperatively and effectively with school staff, professional staff, school community, outside agencies and families
- Customer relations skills
- Accomplish tasks with a minimum of supervision
- Supervise students when accompanying them to various assigned areas (only with proof of required training)
