RIO GRANDE COUNTY HR PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST in Del Norte, Colorado
RGCPHA is seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Support Specialist to join our Byrne State
Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP). This full-time position provides support to individuals in
crisis by drawing on personal lived experience with recovery from behavioral health challenges,
substance use, or crisis situations. The Peer Support Specialist will work alongside mobile crisis
response teams, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community partners to connect people in
need with timely, person-centered services.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide peer-based support, encouragement, and advocacy for individuals experiencing crisis.
• Assist mobile crisis response teams with de-escalation, stabilization, and follow-up care.
• Connect clients with behavioral health, substance use, healthcare, housing, and recovery
resources.
• Share lived experience appropriately to build trust and foster recovery.
• Maintain documentation in compliance with confidentiality and HIPAA standards.
Qualifications:
• Must have lived experience with recovery from a behavioral health condition, substance use
disorder, or crisis (minimum one year sustained recovery).
• Peer Support Specialist Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
• Preferred: Experience in crisis response, bilingual (English/Spanish), and familiarity with San
Luis Valley resources.
