Job Title: Controls Engineer

Job Description

This position is a hands-on individual contributor role centered on controls troubleshooting, programming, and automation project support. The role involves collaborating closely with onsite Project Engineers and OEMs to enhance throughput, support sustainability initiatives, retool, and target automation investments, including engine-related upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, modify, and program PLC and HMI systems supporting highly automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Support automation and optimization projects aimed at increasing throughput and equipment capability.

  • Work alongside Project Engineers to execute controls scope for new and upgraded equipment.

  • Support OEMs and onsite machinery during installation, commissioning, and programming windows.

  • Make programming changes during approved downtime windows, including weekends as needed.

  • Assist with retooling efforts and incremental automation additions throughout the facility.

  • Interface with robotics, vision systems, and CNC-controlled equipment as required.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in PLC programming and automation.

  • Proficiency in ladder logic and Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC programming.

  • Strong troubleshooting and programming skills in Rockwell PLC/HMI environments.

  • Ability to work independently, take direction, and deploy effectively in plant environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required.

  • Equivalent experience accepted, such as 8–10+ years as a Controls Engineer in manufacturing.

  • Automotive manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Siemens PLC/HMI is a plus.

  • Fanuc robot integration or light programming exposure is advantageous.

  • Machine vision integration or programming experience is beneficial.

Work Environment

The position is located in Defiance, OH, and operates on the 1st Shift from approximately 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Project-based overtime is expected, with weekend work typically required for about two weekends per month, although this may vary. The role generally involves 8-hour workdays, with flexibility needed during critical project windows.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
