Job Summary

The Director of Strategy and Business Development for the 340b program will be responsible for leading a team that analyzes market and industry trends, identifies new partnership-style opportunities or relationships in the market that will improve profitability, grow Rx volume and further scale the 340b business across all channels of US pharmacy at Walgreens. This will require the development of business plans and strategies to execute on those opportunities identified. They’re also responsible for collaborating with and vetting opportunities as well as the implementation of those across cross-functional stakeholders including 340b Account Management and Operations, Pharmacy, legal, marketing and others as applicable.

The Director of Strategy and Business Development and their team will also lead strategic marketing efforts including the management of content and materials used to represent and promote the 340b business to customers, partners, at tradeshows and other applicable strategic targets.

They will also have responsibility for setting and aligning on the execution of new customer sales targets with the appropriate sales leader and enablement of the team to deliver on those goals for the 340b business. This includes regular review of pricing methodologies, new sales prospecting process and sales target pipeline management with the sales leader to ensure execution on the 340b business performance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains relationships across all applicable areas of organization including adjacent strategy and business development leaders

  • Maintains industry subject matter expertise, including market trends, competition, Healthcare reform, mergers and acquisitions within the health system space

  • Stays apprised of legislative and statutory proposals and guidance from Congress and advocacy organizations that impact and influence the 340b program nationally

  • Partners with account management and sales leaders to implement account management philosophy and practices that ensure delivery on the 340b program growth goals.

  • Provides team members with appropriate analytical tools and resources needed for business and client level analysis and presentation preparation.

  • Ensures optimization of client satisfaction and retention. Functions as a tier one escalation for adverse client service matters. Satisfaction for new clients as it relates to implementation, follow up and problem solving.

  • Executes strategy to accomplish enterprise-wide deals or opportunities

  • Manages the analysis and evaluation of Request for Proposal (RFP) structure, content, and pricing. Manages contract and pricing negotiations; negotiates and closes deals as needed.

  • Plans, develops and manages departmental expense related to the staff as well as investments required for implementation.

  • Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

External Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and at least 6 years of experience in healthcare in diverse areas such as sales and account management teams. OR High School/GED and at least 9 years of experience in healthcare in diverse areas such as sales and account management teams.

  • Experience collaborating with internal or external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines. Experience negotiating contracts.

  • Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget. Experience in leading indicatives' and collaborating with one or more of these areas: marketing, contracting, operations and sale management, and others.

  • Experience in successful management of diverse sales and account management teams. Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.

  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other CRM programs and presentations.

  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.

  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.

  • Willing to travel up to/at least 20% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing customer relationships and new sales within the health system market

  • Experience in 340b contract pharmacy and/or 340b administration

  • Prior experience in pharmacy, PBM, drug procurement and specialty pharmacy operations and/or strategy

  • Prior experience having exploratory confidential discussions with third parties

  • Master’s degree in business and/or healthcare preferred.

  • Experience in leading teams to meet and exceed business objectives and manage to an expense budget

  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.

  • Knowledge of evolving healthcare industry, familiar with nontraditional disruptors and delivery system specifically related to payer segment.
