Payroll System Implementation Consultant
Location: Remote with required travel for initial onsite training in Illinois
Hourly rate : W2 - negotiable depending on experience $55 Employment Type: Long‑Term Consulting (12 months)
Jefferson Wells is seeking an experienced consultant to support a payroll system implementation for one of our clients. This long‑term role involves contributing to both current‑state cleanup and future‑state design, depending on the consultant’s background. The engagement begins with on‑site training in Illinois, followed by remote work for the remainder of the assignment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional with strong accounting, documentation, and testing experience who enjoys being embedded in transformational system initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and assist with cleanup of existing payroll‑related accounts.
Support documentation of processes, including job guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and end‑user documentation.
Assist with defining current‑state workflows and contribute to building future‑state process design as appropriate to your skillset.
Participate in system testing activities—such as UAT, regression testing, and validating data flows—to ensure accurate payroll functionality.
Contribute to hyper‑care efforts post‑go‑live, helping troubleshoot issues, answer user questions, and verify stabilization of payroll processes.
Assist in setting up new balance sheet accounts, reports, and other system components needed for go‑forward operations.
Work closely with project teams across Payroll, Finance, HR, and IT to support implementation milestones and ensure readiness for deployment.
Maintain clear documentation that supports audit needs, process clarity, and long‑term system sustainment.
Qualifications
Hands‑on experience with payroll systems and payroll accounting
Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliations
Experience supporting technology implementations or large system changes required
Familiarity with testing procedures and defect tracking
Excellent documentation skills (job aids, SOPs, process maps)
Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with large ERP environments (HFM experience is a plus)
