Position Summary

Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. Classes are taught day, evening, and weekends on the Decatur and Huntsville/Research Park campuses and several off-campus sites. In addition, multiple forms of distance education are offered. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System policy.

An additional summer assignment may be available: $14,384 - $29,184 (3 months)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, on the Decatur and Huntsville/Research Park Campus or at other sites, including dual enrollment, traditional classroom, hybrid or web format, and distance education.
  2. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
  3. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
  4. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
  5. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, and catalog material.
  6. Participate in scheduled professional development activities.
  7. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
  8. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  9. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  10. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  11. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work and scheduled classes. Maintain assigned office hours and scheduled class times unless previously approved by the supervisor.
  12. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, impr ving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
  13. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  14. Perform all duties with professionalism.
  15. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  16. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  17. Become familiar with and follow institutional policies and procedures as outlined in theCollege Catalog,Personnel Handbook, andAlabama Community College System Policy Manual.
  18. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
Qualifications

A minimum of a Masters degree with at least 18 gradate semester hours in Physics, from an accredited institution is

required.

Documented teaching experience in the area of physics at the college level as an instructor or graduate teaching assistant is

required..
