Actalent Construction Inspector in Dearborn, Michigan

Job Title: Construction InspectorJob Description

As a Construction Inspector, you will serve as the eyes and ears on local agency infrastructure projects across Michigan. The main projects are located in the city of Highland Park, Detroit, and the Detroit Water and Sewer Department (DWSD). There is also a six-month project in Muskegon focused on road, ADA, and stormwater projects, which includes room and per diem for the duration. After completion, you will transition to projects back in Southeast Michigan.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting project specifications and working drawings, effectively communicating requirements to contractors to ensure projects are built to plan.

  • Performing thorough field inspections, coordinating material testing and sampling, and maintaining equipment.

  • Diligently obtaining and recording field data in a clear and organized manner and generating comprehensive field reports (IDR Daily Reporting).

  • Maintaining open communication with project staff and all relevant stakeholders, keeping everyone informed of progress and potential issues.

  • Recording daily construction quantities to facilitate accurate review of contractor payment requests.

  • Understanding and adhering to all public health and safety requirements and ensuring proper safety procedures are followed on site.

  • Collaborating with project staff to address design changes and field challenges.

  • Maintaining assigned vehicles and equipment as needed.

  • Performing other duties as assigned to support project success.

Essential Skills

  • 5 plus years of Construction Inspection/Observation work.

  • Experience on municipal infrastructure projects such as water mains, sewer, sanitary systems, sidewalks, ADA ramps, roadways, and site structures.

  • Proficiency in IDRs (Inspector Daily Reports) and MS Office.

  • OSHA 10 certification.

  • Familiarity with AASHTOWare, Field Book, Project Wise, Blue Beam, e-Builder, MetaField, and/or Appia.

  • Clean driving record.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Certifications in aggregate, concrete, density, and asphalt testing.

  • Experience on DWSD projects.

  • Bluebeam experience.

Work Environment

This role will primarily involve fieldwork, with the potential to work from the office for team meetings or during inclement weather for documentation and report writing. The position typically requires working 10-12 hour days, Monday through Saturday, with occasional Sundays. A work truck will be provided if available, or mileage can be expensed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dearborn, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
