Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing pre-sales customer support that furthers the sales process and helps close. Working closely with the regional product specialists & product development, and with an understanding of what the customer is trying to accomplish, the application scientist will provide advanced application studies on customer samples and develop new applications that meet and grow the M&CS business objectives.
The Application scientist will also deliver product demonstrations in house or on site, well written white papers and application notes, and also conduct site visits to make recommendations for implementation of M&CS NIR products with the goal of enhancing sales opportunities are also required.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
From an understanding of what the customer is trying to accomplish, work in partnership with the sales team to provide, at a high level, application driven answers that demonstrate product capabilities and applicability to the customer needs.
Be a proactive, commercially savvy and scientifically inquisitive problem solver
Provide advanced applications technical support for our worldwide sales, marketing and customer care teams. This includes advanced sensor feasibility studies, developing new measurements as required, producing well-reasoned & professionally written reports, support of trials and demos as directed, and producing effective sales support material.
Conduct site visits making recommendations for implementation of M&CS NIR equipment
Train individuals or groups in our customer, sales distribution and customer care network, as required
Support of target marketing activities as required
Acquire knowledge of other technologies or measurements used by a customer, their strengths and weaknesses and feedback to the Market Manager areas of overlap or synergy to the M&CS business - distributing a report summary as appropriate
Provide pre-delivery calibrations for Production
Become best in class for application knowledge in the industries M&CS serves
Ability to travel as necessary
Must be able to obtain a Passport to travel outside the UK or US, as applicable
Must have a driving license
Education and Experience Requirements
University Degree(s) in a scientific discipline.
Graduate level degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
Experience of NIR Spectroscopy highly desirable
Good laboratory and reporting skills with the ability to recommend, in well-reasoned reports, the correct process application solution.
Ability to gain the trust, confidence, and technical respect of our customers, our worldwide sales and distribution team and internal staff
Problem solving ability relating to the application of our product
Ability to work independently and to make sound decisions while under pressure
Ability to undertake many jobs in para
