Job Summary:
We are looking for a collaborative and creative UX Design Intern who will contribute to designing next-generation digital experiences across AI-powered platforms, Digital Twin systems, IoT applications, and enterprise SaaS solutions. This role provides hands-on experience across the full UX lifecycle - from research and ideation to design and validation - while working on real-world, high-impact projects within an agile, cross-functional environment. Interns will collaborate with UX leaders, product teams, and engineering partners to create intuitive, user-centered experiences that align with business goals and emerging technologies such as AI, conversational interfaces, and data-driven systems.
Where is the work:
Monday to Thursday, work onsite in Davidson, NC with your colleagues. On Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires.
What you will do:
▪ A 10-week internship program that will challenge and develop your technical, business, design, leadership, and communication skills – providing insight into a creative career with Trane Technologies
▪ Support the design of user experiences for web, mobile, and emerging digital interfaces
▪ Participate in user research, persona development, and journey mapping
▪ Create wireframes, user flows, visual design and interactive prototypes using tools like Figma
▪ Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers in an agile environment
▪ Explore and apply AI-driven UX patterns (e.g., conversational UX, personalization, intelligent recommendations)
▪ Contribute to design system components, guidelines, and documentation
▪ Assist in usability testing and synthesize insights into actionable design improvements
▪ Present design concepts and rationale to team members and stakeholders
▪ Stay current with UX trends, AI innovations, and modern design practices

What you will bring:
Qualifications:
▪ Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in UX Design, HCI, Interaction Design, Product Design, Digital Media or related field
▪ Basic understanding of user-centered design principles and design thinking
▪ Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD
▪ Strong curiosity and interest in AI, emerging technologies, and digital experiences
▪ Good communication and collaboration skills
▪ Portfolio (academic or personal projects) demonstrating design thinking and problem-solving
Preferred Skills (nice to have):
▪ Interest in AI/ML applications in UX (GenAI, chat interfaces, personalization)
▪ Exposure to mobile design, data visualization, or IoT interfaces
▪ Basic understanding of design systems or front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/JS)
▪ Interest in industrial, enterprise, or B2B product design

Compensation:
Salary range: $22/hr. to $30/hr. based on level of schooling.
