Job Title: General Utility Worker

Job Description

The General Utility position is an entry-level production role that encompasses a variety of duties within the production area. This role involves general labor tasks essential to meat processing operations, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations. Employees are expected to maintain cleanliness and communicate any unsanitary conditions promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all production areas in a clean and sanitary condition.

  • Communicate any issues leading to unsanitary conditions promptly.

  • Remove product and packing materials from the floor.

  • Properly dispose of and track inedible products.

  • Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas.

  • Stage production area with empty containers for the following shift.

  • Assist with preparing and disassembling equipment for operation or sanitation.

  • Assist with the collection, opening, and reuse of rework, ensuring proper identification of product and line.

  • Assist in relieving co-workers for breaks and potentially assist in another position.

  • Accurately complete assigned paperwork.

  • Assist in training new employees accurately.

  • Check in with area supervisors for additional tasks before shift end.

  • Perform visual inspection of cases to ensure proper labeling and legible code dates.

  • Make necessary adjustments to machinery to facilitate smooth production.

  • Operate a manual hand jack as needed.

  • Communicate equipment malfunctions promptly.

  • Prepare supplies and workstation for the next shift.

  • Stage ingredients in 50lb containers to maintain product flow.

  • Arrange meat as instructed per specification.

  • Comb, hang, transport, and stack product continuously.

  • Inspect for quality specifications of product on a conveyor belt.

Work Environment

This role operates within a manufacturing environment characterized by exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, and varying temperatures ranging from cold (30 degrees) to warm areas. The noise level is usually high. The job requires constant standing or walking, use of hands and fingers, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and effective communication. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Davenport, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
