The Farm Laborer will support the full cycle of alfalfa production at large-scale irrigated farms in Arizona, from field preparation through harvesting and storage. Workers will operate farm machinery, assist with irrigation, maintain equipment, and perform field labor necessary to ensure high-quality crop yields. Work is performed outdoors in hot, dusty, and sometimes wet conditions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain agricultural machinery used in the production of alfalfa, including tractors, swathers, rakes, balers, loaders, and other equipment. Assist with the setup, monitoring, and maintenance of irrigation systems (center pivot, linear move, and drip systems) to ensure proper water distribution. Load and unload hay bales and other agricultural materials using forklifts or front-end loaders. Inspect fields for weeds, pests, and irrigation issues, and report conditions to supervisors. Apply fertilizers or soil amendments as directed and assist with general farm maintenance, including clearing debris, cleaning equipment, and maintaining storage areas.
Transport materials, tools, and products around the farm using farm vehicles and trailers. Follow strict safety protocols for equipment operation and fieldwork. Work as part of a team during cutting, baling, and stacking operations to ensure efficiency and timeliness of harvests. Assist with seasonal planting, reseeding, or crop rotation preparation when required. Employees will perform multiple duties as assigned to support efficient alfalfa production and meet company standards for quality and safety.
Three (3) months of verifiable experience operating farm equipment similar to that used in alfalfa or forage crop production. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and work long hours in extreme desert conditions (heat, dust, wind). Must follow directions from supervisors and comply with all company and safety policies. Must be able to perform repetitive physical tasks, bend, stoop, and climb onto equipment safely. Work requires flexibility and attention to detail in a team environment.
