Job Title: Forklift Operator

Job Description

The Forklift Operator is responsible for ensuring materials are properly received, stored, and loaded for production. This role involves maintaining the yard area in an organized manner and assisting customers with loading materials as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment for plant start-up each morning.

  • Operate a forklift to move, place, and load masonry products.

  • Perform general housekeeping tasks in and around the plant building and yard, including sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, and cutting grass.

  • Maintain the orderly organization of equipment and supplies in and around the yard and plant.

  • Ensure the cleanliness and appearance of plant grounds.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the plant manager.

Essential Skills

  • Forklift experience is a must.

  • Material handling, picking, sit down forklift operation.

  • Loading and unloading skills.

  • Experience in masonry, construction, bricklaying, and concrete.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Valid/current driver's license.

  • Experience with general or routine maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work independently or in a team setting.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to read, write, and distinguish colors.

  • Ability to read a ruler knowledgeably.

  • Capability to perform simple math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Work Environment

The majority of work is performed outside, with exposure to weather elements such as heat, cold, rain, and dust. The job occasionally involves rough, muddy, and icy walking surfaces, intermittent exposure to high noise levels and vibration, and frequent exposure to moving parts. Workers will also handle cement, lime, concrete, admixtures, diesel fuel, propane, and other substances that may be hazardous if not handled correctly. The role includes frequent exposure to water and wet conditions. Personal protective equipment is provided where necessary or requested.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Danville, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
