Smurfit Westrock Maintenance Technician in Dallas, Texas
The Opportunity
As a Mechatronic Technician, you will support manufacturing operations by ensuring automated machinery and integrated mechanical-electrical systems run reliably, safely, and efficiently. This role combines mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic automation troubleshooting to keep production equipment operating at peak performance. You will perform preventive and emergency maintenance, support equipment upgrades, and partner with engineering and operations to drive improved uptime, performance, and safety across the facility.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on automated machinery, conveyors, robotics, and mechanical/electrical systems.
Assist in diagnosing issues involving motors, sensors, relays, pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic PLC faults.
Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters and, with training, VFD interfaces and basic PLC software.
Test equipment after repairs to confirm safe and proper operation.
Automation & Controls
Assist with PLC fault troubleshooting (Allen\u2011Bradley, Siemens, etc.) under guidance of senior technicians.
Calibrate sensors, encoders, and other automation components.
Support equipment startups and control system updates.
Participate in root cause analysis with coaching from senior technicians or management.
Equipment Installation & Upgrades
Assist with installation of new equipment, including routing wiring, mounting components, and connecting automation devices.
Support configuration of VFDs, servo drives, and control panels under supervision.
Read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
Documentation & Safety
Maintain accurate maintenance documentation in the CMMS.
Follow all company safety policies and help maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Support operator training on basic troubleshooting and safe machine operation.
General Responsibilities
Assist with fabrication of brackets, safety guarding, and small mechanical components.
Operate forklifts, manlifts, and scissor lifts (training provided).
Help maintain spare parts inventory.
What you need to succeed
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Ability to use basic hand tools and measurement tools.
Basic computer skills, including CMMS and Microsoft Office.
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting aptitude.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
Willingness to work overtime or be on call as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical certification in Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Automation Technology, or similar field.
Experience reading ladder logic or troubleshooting PLC faults.
Experience configuring VFDs or working with servo systems.
Fabrication or machining experience.
Forklift, manlift, or scissor\u2011lift certification.
