Your role and responsibilities

As an Application Database Administrator, you will specialize in managing and optimizing databases to ensure the smooth operation and efficient performance of applications relying on databases. Your focus will be on installing, configuring, and maintaining databases, as well as implementing disaster recovery strategies and performing performance tuning. Your primary responsibilities will include: • Install and Configure Databases: Install, configure, and maintain databases to ensure high availability and optimal performance. This includes setting up database systems, defining database structures, and configuring database parameters. • Implement Disaster Recovery Strategies: Develop and implement disaster recovery strategies to minimize data loss and ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster. • Perform Performance Tuning: Analyze database performance and implement tuning measures to optimize database efficiency and responsiveness. • Maintain Database Systems: Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as backups, upgrades, and patches, to ensure database systems remain secure and up-to-date. • Ensure High Availability: Implement measures to ensure high availability, including clustering, replication, and failover systems, to minimize downtime and ensure continuous access to databases.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Database Management Experience: Exposure to managing and optimizing databases using products such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, DB2, and Teradata, with a focus on ensuring high availability and optimal performance. • System Administration Knowledge: Experience working with system administration concepts, including installing, configuring, and maintaining database systems, as well as implementing disaster recovery strategies. • Programming Understanding: Exposure to programming concepts and their application in database management, including performance tuning and optimization. • Database Concepts Familiarity: Experience working with database concepts, including database structures, database parameters, and data modeling. • Performance Tuning Skills: Exposure to analyzing database performance and implementing tuning measures to optimize database efficiency and responsiveness.

  • Solid understanding of enterprise data lifecycle management, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, storage, governance, and consumption across different business units.

  • Familiarity with common enterprise data architectures such as data warehouses, data marts, and data lakes, along with how Snowflake fits within a modern cloud‑based data ecosystem.

  • Knowledge of business processes that rely on analytical data—such as financial reporting, sales performance analysis, supply‑chain analytics, operational dashboards, or compliance reporting—and the ability to translate these needs into well‑structured data models.

  • Understanding of data governance principles, including data ownership, access control, data quality processes, metadata management, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Experience working with cross‑functional stakeholders (e.g., business analysts, BI developers, data engineers, security teams) to support data accessibility and ensure reliable, trusted data for business decision‑making.

  • Familiarity with how BI tools (such as Power BI) consume curated datasets and how data modeling choices affect reporting accuracy, performance, and user experience.

  • Awareness of cloud platform concepts such as storage layers, compute resources, security controls, networking, cost management, and data integration patterns within environments like AWS.

  • Understanding the role of ETL/ELT pipelines in business operations, including handling structured/unstructured data, ensuring data freshness, and supporting business‑critical analytics.

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Advanced Database Concepts: Exposure to advanced database concepts, including data warehousing, data governance, and data quality, would be beneficial in this role. • Scripting and Automation: Experience with scripting languages, such as Python, PowerShell, or SQL, and automation tools would be advantageous in automating database tasks and workflows. • Cloud Database Services: Familiarity with cloud-based database services, such as Amazon RDS or Azure SQL Database, would be valuable in managing and optimizing cloud-based databases.
