Summary
The Shop Supervisor is a working leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the farm shop. This position ensures that all equipment is maintained to CSS Farms' standards, repair schedules are met, and the shop team operates safely and efficiently. You will bridge the gap between high-level equipment strategy and hands-on maintenance execution.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and train Shop Workers. Coordinate daily work assignments to ensure maximum uptime for tractors, trucks, and specialized potato/irrigation equipment.
Workflow Management: Prioritize repair orders and preventative maintenance schedules, especially during high-pressure planting and harvest seasons.
Quality Control: Inspect completed repairs and maintenance logs to ensure work meets manufacturer specifications and company safety standards.
Inventory & Purchasing: Manage the procurement of parts, tools, and shop supplies. Maintain relationships with external vendors and manage the shop budget.
Technical Oversight: Act as the lead expert for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, including GPS and precision ag technology integrations.
Safety Compliance: Enforce the use of PPE and safety around equipment. Conduct regular safety meetings and shop inspections to maintain a culture of safety.
Documentation: Oversee the Shop Workers' record-keeping to ensure all equipment service histories are accurate, complete, and digitized.
Physical Demands
Ability to perform all physical tasks of a Shop Worker (lifting 65 lbs, bending, crouching) as this is an active leadership role.
Extended periods of standing and walking across various farm sites.
Expected Hours of Work
Typical hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Required: Increased availability during peak seasonal windows (planting/harvest) to manage shift handovers and emergency repairs.
Desired Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of experience in farm equipment maintenance, with at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of diesel mechanics, hydraulics, and crop ergonomics/irrigation systems.
Leadership: Proven ability to manage a team, resolve conflicts, and communicate clear instructions.
Bilingual: Proficiency in Spanish and English is highly preferred to effectively manage a diverse workforce.
Tech Savvy: Advanced proficiency with fleet management software and precision ag platforms.
