Role Purpose
The Head of Finance – CIB ( Commercial and Institutional Banking ) Mexico and LAM is a key leadership role focused on business partnering, supporting and driving business performance, and maintaining a common global finance operating framework, while ensuring a robust control environment. The role provides strategic direction and guidance to senior management within CIB Mexico and LAM, acting as a business partner to the Head of CIB Mexico and LAM. The role is responsible for delivering insightful financial analysis, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
Principal Accountabilities
Business Partnering & Performance Management
Act as a trusted advisor to the CIB Mexico and LAM leadership team, providing timely, insightful analysis and advice to improve performance across revenue, costs, and FTEs.
Support and challenge the business to deliver medium and long-term revenue, cost, FTE, capital, and other performance targets.
Provide commercial and finance expertise for new product launches, pricing reviews, and strategic initiatives.
Drive accountability for investment spend through regular engagement with strategic partners, ensuring adequate reporting is in place to support execution.
Lead and coordinate business restructuring activities as required.
Strategic Planning & Transformation
Lead the execution of the regional finance business plan, focusing on team development, transformation, business restructuring, and projects.
Further the finance transformation agenda: stop, simplify, automate, and ensure new strategic tools are fit for purpose.
Drive the development and implementation of digital and finance transformation initiatives.
Financial Control & Reporting
Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of financials for CIB Mexico and LAM.
Keep management informed of key financial issues and enhance financial reporting to meet customer requirements.
Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the management of internal and external audit requirements and issues raised by external regulators.
Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as the principal point of contact for all finance-related matters in the region.
Lead engagement across Finance (accounting policy, ALCM, regulatory policy, and local finance teams as required).
Collaborate with global and regional finance partners for cohesive end-to-end oversight across the suite of CIB products.
Risk & Compliance
Continually reassess operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, considering changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures, and new technology.
Ensure good controls and procedures exist and are in line with best practice.
Adhere to and demonstrate adherence to internal controls and compliance policies.
Major Challenges
Understanding and identifying key business and economic factors that drive business performance to provide effective insight and advice to business leaders.
Leading the CIB Mexico and LAM businesses in driving financial performance while implementing the regulatory and compliance agenda.
Managing in an environment of significant ambiguity and pressure to interpret and disseminate expertise on upcoming requirements within short timescales.
Delivering results without compromising standards of internal control and governance.
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
An effective business partner capable of operating at senior levels of the organization.
Strong understanding of the suite of CIB products (including MSS and Wholesale/Banking).
Strong understanding of client profitability metrics.
Working knowledge of balance sheet and capital management.
Driven, delivery-oriented individual with a commercial mindset and ability to coordinate change.
In tune with macroeconomic factors, market dynamics, and able to interpret impact on performance and risk/return profile.
Strong analytical skills, ability to understand complex data and make high-quality, timely decisions.
Demonstrated team management and leadership skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience in Latin America financial markets and regulatory environments is highly desirable.
Fluency in English and Spanish required.
