Job Description

The Learning and Development Specialist will provide hands-on support to a mission-driven organization by designing, developing, and delivering impactful training programs during a critical coverage period, with strong potential to transition into a long-term role. This position is ideal for a versatile L&D professional who excels as a trainer-of-trainers, can turn raw or unstructured content into engaging learning experiences, and enjoys partnering closely with leaders and subject matter experts in a highly collaborative, fully onsite environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate Learning and Development support during a defined coverage gap and ensure continuity of training efforts throughout the contract period.

  • Partner with internal subject matter experts to translate raw ideas, notes, and source material into structured, effective training programs.

  • Design, develop, and facilitate training initiatives that align with organizational needs, growth priorities, and development goals.

  • Serve as a trainer-of-trainers by equipping leaders and internal teams to deliver consistent, high-quality learning experiences.

  • Leverage existing technology and tools to enhance training delivery, interactivity, and learner engagement, even in the absence of a formal L&D platform.

  • Collaborate with external partners, including universities and educational institutions, to support learning and development initiatives.

  • Organize, manage, and maintain training materials, learning resources, and documentation across the organization.

  • Continuously identify and implement opportunities to improve training effectiveness, learner engagement, and development outcomes.

  • Manage L&D projects from concept through delivery, ensuring timelines, expectations, and quality standards are met.

  • Operate in a hands-on, self-directed manner, stepping in quickly to assess needs and deliver value with minimal ramp-up time.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in Learning and Development.

  • Strong background in instructional design, including the ability to design and structure effective learning experiences.

  • Proven experience in training facilitation and delivering engaging in-person learning sessions.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop training content and materials from unstructured or high-level concepts.

  • Comfort operating without a formal Learning and Development platform and adapting available tools as needed.

  • Experience providing hands-on, self-directed support to organizational development initiatives.

  • Ability to quickly step into a role and deliver value with minimal onboarding.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with leaders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills to manage multiple training initiatives and resources.

  • Ability to work fully onsite and actively engage in a collaborative work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience acting as a trainer-of-trainers and enabling others to deliver training confidently and consistently.

  • background in developing and maintaining training materials and learning resource libraries.

  • Experience partnering with external organizations such as universities or educational institutions to support development programs.

  • Comfort using and adapting various technologies and tools to support learning delivery and engagement, even in low-system or manual environments.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite in Cromwell, CT, operating on a Monday through Friday, first-shift schedule. The environment is highly collaborative, with close partnership across departments and regular interaction with leaders, subject matter experts, and external educational partners. The organization is mission-driven and non-profit, offering meaningful work and significant opportunities for internal growth and development. You will work in a setting that currently does not use a formal Learning and Development platform, requiring adaptability and comfort with leveraging existing tools and resources to design and deliver training. The position is structured as a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity, supporting a culture that values initiative, hands-on contribution, and continuous improvement in learning and development.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cromwell, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $38.46/hr.
