Amentum Mass Spectrometry Engineer or Scientist in Crane, Indiana

Seeking a driven, hands-on scientist/engineer/technician with practical experience in mass spectrometry to develop, lead, and support our capabilities in residual gas analysis (RGA), gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS), liquid chromatography/mass spectroscopy (LC/MS), time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). The position will split time approximately 50% on RGA and 50% on other MS techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for instrument operation, method development, maintenance coordination, consumable management, data interpretation and technical reporting.
Primary Duties Include:
Instrument ownership and capability development
Establish, develop and maintain MS programs
Provide technical oversight for data and methods
Develop standard operating procedures and test plans
Development of quantitative and semi-quantitative methods for emergent, non-standard requests
Analytical operations
Perform RGA and other MS measurements for materials characterization, contamination, and seal integrity analysis
Equipment maintenance
Coordinate preventative maintenance and service with OEMs
Diagnose basic maintenance issues and work with OEMs to resolve
Ensure instrument performance through routine checks and calibrations
Data Analysis, reporting, and communication
Interpret MS and RGA data providing clear technical conclusions
Prepare reports and presentations for customers/stakeholders
Maintain organized records of experiments, maintenance
Communicate results to both technical and non-technical audiences
Work independently or collaboratively on projects as needed

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemical engineering technology, or other related discipline.
Lab internship or 2+ years relevant professional experience
Must be able to obtain and maintain and active Secret clearance (interim is required to start, US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance)
The successful candidate will demonstrate working knowledge of:
Mass spectrometry principles and applications
Instrument operation, calibration and performance verification for MS instrumentation platforms
Working knowledge of microelectronic packaging
Method development and optimization for MS analysis
Working knowledge of industry standards pertaining to the test and evaluation of materials
Working knowledge of analytical techniques to identify and characterize organic materials
Working knowledge of high vacuum/ultra-high vacuum instrumentation is a plus
Proficient in the use of at least one of the following analytical instruments
RGA or internal vapor analysis
GC/MS
LC/MS
Effective technical communication between peers and customers
Rigorous and succinct summarization of technical results in a formal, written report using MS Word and MS PowerPoint
Document procedures, follow documented procedure
The successful candidate will have the following abilities:
Work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Deductive reasoning necessary to interpret how individual laboratory results apply to a larger data package
Laboratory skills necessary to perform rigorous tests and evaluations using analytical equipment
Ability to adapt industry standard test and evaluation methods to the specific needs of a technical project
Preferred Requirements:
Master’s degree in chemical engineering
Active Secret security clearance
Compensation Details:
$110,000 - $150,000
