Job Description
As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer.
Description :
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll be part of a collaborative team supporting supply chain operations for our scientific products and services. As a Supply Chain Specialist II, you'll manage procurement, planning, and logistics activities to ensure timely delivery of products that help make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. This role combines analytical thinking with practical implementation to optimize inventory levels, coordinate with stakeholders, and support continuous improvement in our supply chain processes. You'll work with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, finance, and commercial operations to deliver master data build/cleanse and documentation actions assigned by the Swindon project team to deliver data readiness for TEMPO/Kinaxis advanced planning tool roll out (materials, BOMs, routings, work centres, calendars, constraints), plus SOPs/WIs for sustainment.
Core competencies required
Master data execution in SAP: strong hands-on capability to create/update/validate master data objects accurately and consistently (not just spreadsheets).
Planning/scheduling data literacy: understands what “good” looks like for routings, times, calendars, capacities, and constraints so schedules are realistic.
Detail & accuracy: disciplined approach to accuracy, version control, and change control; understands how small errors create major operational issues.
Cross-functional working: able to work with SMEs (Ops, Engineering, QA, Planning) to gather inputs and confirm changes, without needing to “lead” workshops.
Data validation & reconciliation: can run checks, spot inconsistencies, and produce clean exception lists for resolution; understands upstream/downstream impacts.
Documentation capability: can write clear SOPs and work instructions (step-by-step) for master data maintenance/change control, aligned to site document standards.
Execution reliability: works to a backlog assigned by the site lead, meets deadlines, flags blockers early, maintains clear progress tracking.
Proven experience required
3+ years hands-on master data experience in a manufacturing environment (regulated preferred).
Demonstrated experience building/cleansing:
BOMs (structure accuracy, quantities, alternates/effectivity)
Routings/recipes (operations & relationships, standard times, yields/scrap factors if used)
Work centres/resources (capacity, grouping, eligibility)
Calendars/shift models
Material master planning attributes (UoM, lead times, MRP/planning parameters as required)
Experience supporting planning system readiness (APS/scheduling implementations, major data clean-ups for planning transformations, or similar).
Experience working with change control and auditability (evidence of updates, approvals, controlled documents).
Nice to have
Familiarity with Kinaxis Maestro and PlanetTogether (or similar advanced planning tools)
Exposure to SAP PP/MM/QM data objects.
Requirements:
Advanced Degree with no prior experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 2 years of experience in supply chain operations, planning, or procurement
Preferred Fields of Study: Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field
Professional certifications such as CSCP, CPIM, or equivalent are advantageous
Strong proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, QAD) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities with strong attention to detail
Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate across functions and teams
Experience with process improvement methodologies (PPI, Lean, Six Sigma)
Demonstrated project management and organizational skills
Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus
Experience in regulated industries (GMP, FDA) preferred
Strong understanding of inventory management principles and practices
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
Customer-focused mindset with emphasis on meeting delivery commitments
Knowledge of international trade compliance and shipping requirements
Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing process improvements
Experience with demand planning and forecasting tools
Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities
