About this Job

This position is located in District 04 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports to the Operations Maintenance Specialist. Serves as a Highway Foreman for a Districtwide Fleet Crew. Requires specialized knowledge and operation of heavy equipment, computers (Agile Assets), and tablets, as well as safe operation of passenger vehicles and other Highway Foreman 2 equipment. Must possess and maintain a Class A CDL and participate in required training and continuing education. Incumbent must be self-motivated, able to work independently, interpret unforeseen conditions, and perform minor repairs and maintenance. Responsible for operating and supervising specialized heavy equipment used in the repair and maintenance of state and federal highways in District 04.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR

Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of electronically controlled locks or industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Supervises an 8-member districtwide maintenance crew performing road repair activities using specialized heavy equipment.

  • Plans, schedules, and assigns work; oversees operations such as paving, milling, patching, and traffic control.

  • Monitors employee performance, prepares evaluations, and coordinates training with the Operations Maintenance Specialist.

  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and accurate daily documentation of work activities, labor, equipment, and materials.

  • Responds to public concerns, emergencies, and provides support during absences or disaster operations as needed.

This position requires a Class "A" CDL before appointment.
