Job Title:

Lead Preschool Teacher

Reports To: Preschool Director

Supervises: Students, Non-Certified Staff (Aides), and Volunteers

Nature and Scope of Job:

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the designated classroom physically, emotionally, spiritually, and the learning environment. This responsibility pertains to each student, non-certified staff, and all volunteers. The Lead Teacher is required to achieve academic and spiritual excellence by preparing the classroom, plan lessons accordingly, remain current in knowledge that pertains to specific content, and collaborate with other staff members and outside sources.

Qualifications:

1)

Should possess a degree/teaching certificate that is recognized by DHS and/or the Iowa Department of Education. In the case the degree/teaching certificate has not been provided, the Lead Teacher must be approved by the HCS Board, DHS, and adhere to all stipulations provided from these governing authorities.

2)

Complete Mandatory Reporter Certification, Universal Precautions, First Aid and CPR certification, Essentials training.

3)

Able to maintain a business casual appearance and/or the appearance that is needed due to the aspects of the job, such as activities, field trips, meetings, and/or events.

4)

Able to work cohesively with all HCS administration, staff and parents.

5)

Able to initiate, develop, and both short-term and long-term learning plans, goals, and objectives to teach the subjects required.

6)

Able to adhere to the HCS mission, as mentioned below, and the requirements of the staff handbook and contract on and off campus.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

1)

Create classroom planning for each subject.

2)

Use different types of strategies to support the learning environment.

3)

Communicate to parents through technology and personal communication.

4)

Oversees all activities of the classroom (parties, field trips, and all classroom guests or special speakers).

5)

Supervise all students, classroom staff, and volunteers.

6)

Responsible for all classroom content, including but not limited to, videos, technology devices, music, guests, and activities.

7)

Establishes the classroom lesson plan from the school approved curriculum and will seek approval for support curriculum if needed, and implement this in daily learning goals, which includes maintaining an up-to-date gradebook.

8)

Demonstrate effective leadership of the classroom through, HCS mission oriented conduct, life style, and activities.

9)

Immediately notify the appropriate agency when evidence of child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions. Notify appropriate personnel when evidence of potential suicide or evidence of a student or staff member under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

10)

Keep administration advised when classroom non-certified staff (Aides) are not meeting their contractual agreement or responsibilities.

11)

Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with parents and staff.

12)

Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by administration and not otherwise prohibited by law or in conflict with the employment contract.

Term of Employment:

12 months

Compensation/Salary: Salary shall be determined by the HCS Board prior to April 1st of each year.

Evaluation: Annual based upon performance of assigned duties by the Preschool Director and the Executive Director.
