SUNY Cortland Facility Operations Assistant 1Custodial in CORTLAND, New York

Summary:The facility operations assistant primarily performs the duties of a cleaner which include cleaning and maintaining assigned areas within residence halls and academic and administrative buildings which contributes to creating a safe and clean learning and work environment. Additionally on a limited basis, the facility operations assistant may assist in snow removal, lawn care maintenance, event setup, and maintenance related duties such as; painting, furniture repair, and helping maintenance technicians. We are currently seeking candidates for two full-time positions. Major Responsibilities:General Cleaning * Use mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements to wash, wax, vacuum, and shampoo carpets, floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, windows from the inside of buildings, etc. * Collect trash and recyclables from offices, centralized trash locations, designated trash rooms and dormitories, and transport to the exterior dumpster. * Use hand-dusting equipment to dust assigned areas. * Use hand-operated equipment and detergents to scrub and clean all areas of lavatories, such as sinks, showers, urinals, toilets, etc. * Use designated equipment to polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment. * Assist with cleaning for absent employees as directed or assigned. Furniture Coordination and Event Support * Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions. * Move furniture within the building for office moves. * Set up furniture and equipment in assigned areas, such as athletic fields, gymnasiums, and conference or meeting rooms, as needed. Lighting and High Areas * Use appropriate equipment such as ladders and aerial lifts to clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs in high places. Maintenance and Grounds * Remove snow and salt sidewalks or stairs adjacent to the assigned building entrance. * Use manual and/or mechanical equipment to occasionally clean sidewalks, yards, and driveways. * Weed garden beds adjacent to the assigned building in summer months. * Assist maintenance with basic maintenance during summer/winter to include painting within dormitories. * Fill in for absent employees within the assigned zone.
