Job Description

TITLE: Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate Colorado certification for a Speech and Language Pathology

Assistant or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire. Ability to work collaboratively

under the supervision of a certified SLP. Strong organizational, communication, and data

collection skills.

JOB GOAL: The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides support to

the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for students with communication disorders. All

activities performed by the SLPA are conducted under the direct supervision and

direction of a CDE licensed SLP.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Direct Intervention: Follow through with interventions based on the Individualized

Education Program (IEP) as developed by the SLP and the IEP team.

  1. Lesson Implementation: Implement lesson plans and activities based on

established IEP goals and objectives.

  1. Service Delivery: Provide interventions through various models developed by the

SLP and IEP team, including integrative, push in services, or pull-out sessions.

  1. Data Collection: Collect data as designed by the SLP and report this information for

the SLP's interpretation (e.g., tallying data for charts, records, or graphs).

  1. Screening: Perform school-wide speech-language, preschool, kindergarten, and

hearing screenings without interpretation.

  1. Instructional Support: Assist the SLP in creating instructional materials and

performing clerical duties or departmental operations.

  1. Equipment Maintenance: Perform checks and maintenance of equipment after

receiving appropriate training from the SLP.

  1. Collaboration: Communicate and consult regularly with the supervising SLP

regarding student progress, goals, and interventions.

  1. Professional Participation: Support the SLP in in-service training and attend parent

or IEP meetings as an observer (after consulting with the SLP).

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 174 days

SALARY: Dependent on experience and education. Table - BA 174 (LINK to Salary Tables).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervised by the SLP Department Chair and

the Director of Exceptional Student Services.
