Mobile Service Technician

The Mobile Service Technician is responsible for performing automotive repairs and maintenance at customer locations, in accordance with Lithia and manufacturer standards. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, adaptability, and customer service skills to deliver high-quality service in a mobile environment. This individual will utilize their skills to diagnose and resolve automotive issues swiftly. The Mobile Service Technician works independently and in coordination with Service personnel and management to ensure customer satisfaction.

The Mobile Service Technician reports to the Service Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer and on-site locations to perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, and warranty recall services.

  • Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy in line with Lithia and manufacturer standards

  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform authorized repairs on-site

  • Be knowledgeable and skilled in performing all available warranty recalls remotely.

  • Occasionally service multiple vehicles in one location and coordinate with external dealers/facilities to streamline repairs.

  • Complete all work according to applicable safety requirements

  • Road-test vehicles to ensure quality of repair work

  • Accurately record time spent on repairs using company time clocking procedures

  • Document work performed and test procedures/results using mobile service software

  • Maintain a clean and organized mobile service vehicle and inventory of tools

  • Ensure customer vehicles are returned as clean as they were prior to service

  • Communicate with parts department to ensure necessary parts are available before appointments

  • Assess vehicles for additional safety or service needs and communicate findings

  • Provide estimates and obtain customer authorization for additional work

  • Return special tools to proper place and use shop supplies economically

  • Complete all required training and maintain manufacturer and ASE certifications

  • Review technical bulletins and publications as assigned

  • Constructively communicate with dealership personnel to satisfy customer needs

  • Report any situation that jeopardizes safety, welfare, or integrity of the dealership

  • Maintain grooming, hygiene, and uniform standards per departmental policies

  • Arrive at work, take breaks, and depart work at times designated by management.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and basic sales aptitude preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

  • Ability to perform repairs in one or more of the following areas:

  • Lube and Maintenance Services

  • Engine Repair

  • Suspension/Steering Repair

  • Brake Repair

  • Electrical/Electrical Systems Repair

  • Heating and A/C Repair

  • Engine Drivability Diagnosis and Repair

  • Certification/Training:

  • Manufacturer certified in all areas listed above.

  • ASE certifications preferred (minimum of 3 recommended; ASE Master Technician ideal but not required).

  • Customer Pay Proficiency Level: Greater than 100% Customer Pay Repairs

  • Automotive Technical Knowledge – Three years’ experience preferred.

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record

  • Ability to operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles

  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions

  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, Email, Internet)

  • Previous mobile service experience preferred
