Job Title: Scientist II
Company: Kelly Science & Clinical (on behalf of a leading medical device organization)
Location: Cornelia, GA (training may be in Athens, GA or vice versa)
Employment Type: 6 month contract, potential for extension
Pay: $30/hr-$35/hr
Shift: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Position Summary
Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Scientist II to support biological testing and product development activities within a regulated laboratory environment. This role involves designing and executing biological experiments, performing routine and complex laboratory testing, and supporting manufacturing operations to ensure timely product delivery.
The Scientist II will work under general supervision, applying established scientific practices and techniques while ensuring compliance with cGMP standards and internal procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Perform environmental monitoring, laboratory assays, and biomarker identification/development
Conduct biological indicator, endotoxin, bioburden, growth promotion testing, and microbial identification
Execute routine and complex testing to support manufacturing and product release timelines
Perform raw material, in-process, and finished goods testing upon completion of training
Analyze and interpret data; provide scientific input based on current literature
Initiate and participate in investigations for non-conforming results
Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
Troubleshoot methodologies and laboratory instrumentation
Perform calibration, verification, and maintenance of lab equipment per SOPs
Utilize laboratory software systems and prepare reagents, standards, and controls
Support training activities and provide peer data review
Ensure compliance with cGMP, safety, and environmental regulations
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline required
Master’s degree preferred
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with 2–5 years of relevant laboratory experience , or
Master’s degree with 0–3 years of experience
Experience in a cGMP environment required
Chromatography experience (GC and HPLC) required
Experience with Empower Chromatography Software required
Test method validation and analytical method development experience preferred
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of quality systems and laboratory compliance
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
