Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking a Sr. Principal Energetics Engineer to join our Rocket Motor Nozzle Manufacturing team. This position will be located at our facility located in Promontory, Utah .

Role Description & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and instill a strong safety culture in daily operations

  • Lead cross-discipline engineering team in IRAD nozzle projects in support of new business acquisitions

  • Perform Peer Reviews for Nozzle Bond and Assembly process changes

  • Overseeing process engineering tasks for IRAD nozzle projects and ensuring on time delivery

  • Mentoring other molding or bond and assembly engineers

  • Developing and continuously improving manufacturing processes

  • Supporting manufacturing operations, to include composites manufacturing, machining, rubber layup and molding, chemical bonding, primers and coatings, and complex assemblies

  • Leading cause and corrective action investigations to permanently eliminate defects using root cause analysis tools

  • Working with concurrent engineering team to create Build-to-Packages (i.e. engineering and planning documents)

  • Authoring, updating, and peer reviewing manufacturing instructions

  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to VSET, leadership, and to the customers for review and approval

  • Monitoring production events and utilizing SPC tools to ensure process control

  • Developing and incorporating process improvements, disseminating lessons learned to the engineering team and ensuring implementation

  • Troubleshooting production, tooling, and facility issues and implementing solutions

  • Leading design, checkout, qualification and implementation of new or modified tooling or equipment

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in flexseal and/or nozzle assembly qualification and acceptance testing

  • Self-Starter that takes initiative to complete tasks and assignments with little supervision

  • Good problem-solving skills and strong oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing Techniques

  • Interpreting blueprints and specifications, GD&T standards

  • Experience with 3D modeling software as it pertains to hardware-tooling interfaces and Type I tool design

  • Experience working with rubbers, metals, and composite materials

  • Strong interpersonal and Customer Service Skills

  • Experience utilizing Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to identify shifts/trends in manufacturing data, as well as a history of implementing effective process changes

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering degree with 5 years’ experience /or 3 years of experience with a master's degree.

  • Basic Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience writing electronic shop instructions

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Manufacturing Planning and MRP software

  • Experience with PLM Software (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)

  • Experience with using 3D modeling software (Solidworks, NX, Pro-E, etc.)

  • Experience working with Aerospace standards and the implementation of standards across cross-functional teams

  • Experience with chemical and mechanical bonding processes—rubber and composite molding processes

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
