Job Description
Who will you be working with?
You will be part of the Fleet Innovation and Transformation Team , a global Systems Engineering group focused on locomotive modernization, NPI kit development, digital upgrades, and controls electronics evolution.
How will you make a difference?
As a Systems Engineer , you will lead locomotive modernization and upgrade programs, NPI kits development, software upgrades, and Control Electronics Obsolescence initiatives with broad scope and high impact for the business. You will be responsible for projects with long‑term implications, driving complex cross-functional coordination, ensuring system-level requirement alignment, and supporting our customers by delivering robust technical solutions.
You will act as the primary engineering interface across commercial, product management, validation, sourcing, and services teams, leading projects from concept through customer delivery.
What do we want to know about you? Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Controls & Software, Electronics & Computer Science
Proven experience with engineering project execution, preferably in the railway industry
Systems approach and analytical mindset
Ability to drive projects to completion, meeting key milestones and deliverables
Project planning and organizational skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Desired Characteristics
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls & Software, Electronics & Computer Science
Six Sigma training
Electrical/Controls/Software design background
Familiarity with manufacturing processes
Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
North America and International legacy locomotive expertise
What will your typical day look like?
Provide technical leadership for all product design aspects of NPI, software, control electronics obsolescence, or locomotive modernization projects
Develop and maintain project schedules; engage necessary engineering resources
Analyze and identify project risks and build mitigation plans
Perform locomotive configuration file analysis, comparison, updates, approvals, and release
Deliver strong and concise requirements and product definitions to engineering teams
Analyze system-level designs with focus on design rigor and improvement opportunities
Use engineering tools such as QSW, DOORS, EDOT, PLM, Reliance
Organize and perform system-level validation plans
Support interfacing organizations (commercial, proposals, manufacturing, sourcing, services, reliability, global engineering, systems engineering)
Support services, fulfillment, and NPI activities
Support customer delivery and commissioning, on-site or remotely
Communicate progress to all levels of the organization
Mentor and develop less experienced personnel
