Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager for the Intermediate Care Unit and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocation Nurse, the Monitor Technician provides continual telemetry monitoring, as well as a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring admission to the Unit. The Monitor Technician is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse in providing high-quality patient care activities as delegated by and under the supervision of the registered professional nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. The Monitor Technician will appropriately communicate with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members. The Monitor Technician must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development. The Monitor Technician will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in-services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area.
Utilizes computer appropriately to accomplish unit activities.
Orders supplies from central services as needed.
Sets up, cleans and returns equipment as needed.
Identifies and reports defective equipment, unsafe conditions, and any risks to patients, families and other employees.
Initiates maintenance repair requests.
When assigned to monitoring duties maintains continuous surveillance of EKG tracings on the central console of all monitored patients.
Runs strips of each patient at the beginning of each shift and whenever there is rhythm change or patient becomes symptomatic.
Reports any rhythm change or monitoring problems to the Nurse and the appropriate unit.
What qualifications you will need:
BLS certification.
ACLS Optional
Must pass EKG course/or 1 year Telemetry experience
Must Pass Telemetry Competency Test
