The State of New Hampshire, Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, has a full-time vacancy for our Park Supervisor, Coleman State Park.

Summary:

Manages and supervises personnel, operations, and maintenance of a New Hampshire State Park of moderate complexity based on an overall assessment of specific park attributes, including, but not limited to, visitation, infrastructure, services, staffing levels, and communication with external parties; or supervises an area or program within a highly complex park. Assists with park support activities and oversight of projects including supervision of contractors and coordination of infrastructure construction and repairs. Prepares and submits written reports and summaries concerning park operations.

Responsibilities:

Performs management, recruitment, hiring, supervision, training, evaluation and development of staff and volunteers at a state park. Provides routine guidance to new employees. Solves personnel problems and performs employee performance appraisal; elevates related concerns to the Park Supervisor III, Assistant Regional Park Supervisor or Regional Park Supervisor when necessary.

Assigns and supervises the work of subordinate employees maintaining parks, facilities, open space functions, activities, historic sites, and wayside areas to achieve the highest standards of cleanliness, appearance and function. Coordinates the work to ensure an outstanding visitor experience through ongoing functional supervision, and directly performs facility and ground maintenance duties as needed.

Oversees fee collection for park use, facility rentals and retail operations. Ensures proper cash handling procedures are complied with and revenue is appropriately collected in accordance with the fee package and other policies. Monitors and controls inventory to maintain satisfactory quantities of concessions and other goods.

Performs administrative duties including monitoring completion of payroll, schedules and cash reports. Prepares and makes bank deposits. Prepares reports and necessary records and may make recommendations regarding plans and policies governing state parks. Assists with monitoring and summarizing collection of information on park use and income.

Investigates customer complaints and meets with the public and community groups to resolve issues referring unusual situations to the supervisor with suggestions for problem resolution.

Creates reports and compiles data, information, and metrics in order to assist the Regional Park Supervisor with budget, programming and operations management and business goal administration. Prepares summaries on equipment distribution, park facility utilization and staffing levels. Creates reports to monitor revenues, costs and resources, and to help identify park trends.

Provides a positive work environment to support and motivate employees through regular communication, setting clear expectations, recognizing accomplishments, providing adequate training, assisting staff, and establishing and maintaining communication and teamwork within and between management units and throughout the Parks system.

Promotes a customer service culture that includes respect, support, and assistance to visitors, a friendly atmosphere, timely responses to complaints, and creative solutions to address visitor expectations. Supports park programs, initiatives, marketing activities, and promotions.

Ensures park employees and operations comply with all state, federal, and local rules, regulations and laws. Ensures the public complies with park rules to maintain public safety, achieve the desired visitor experience, and protect park assets.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS:Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Experience in park operations, outdoor recreation, retail, hospitality, customer service, or a related field.

License/Certification: Valid drivers license.

Other Requirements:

Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Must be able to do light to medium work, including continuous walking or operating simple equipment for extended periods of time as well as occasional strenuous activities such as reaching, climbing, or bending; must be able to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds as needed.

Must be able to operate machines and equipment in all types of weather condition

Must be able to work outdoors with exposure to adverse or disagreeable weather conditions as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Considerable knowledge of the policies, programs and procedures of state park operation and maintenance. Considerable knowledge of general construction and repair methods and the proper utilization of the tools, materials and equipment used in structure and ground maintenance. Knowledge of sound administrative principles and practices. Knowledge of the principles of effective supervision. Ability to appear before the public and deal courteously with the public in explaining and enforcing park policies, programs, rules and regulations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Ability to plan and supervise the work of others. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
