Job Title: Distribution Operator / Forklift Operator

Job Description

The Distribution Operator plays a key role in warehouse and distribution operations by accurately pulling orders, loading and unloading trucks, and handling incoming and outgoing shipments. This role uses forklifts, RF scanners, and other bar code-oriented equipment to support the company’s supply chain requirements while maintaining high standards of safety, product quality, and housekeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Pull orders and examine outgoing shipments to ensure they meet specifications, verifying correctness and accuracy of counts for a perfect order.

  • Operate forklifts to load and unload trucks and to move, convey, transport, and locate product within the facility.

  • Use electronic equipment and bar code scanners to scan products and locations and complete assigned tasks within the facility.

  • Use hand-held and tethered data collection devices to compare identifying information and counts, weighing or measuring items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify against bills of lading, orders, or other distribution documents.

  • Arrange finished products and incoming materials in the warehouse in an orderly manner according to the warehouse location plan.

  • Examine incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and report damages and shortages to supervision.

  • Conduct inventory cycle counts as directed and assist with periodic physical inventory.

  • Report any damage to finished product and repack items according to standard operating procedures, notifying supervision as required.

  • Support scheduled hours, including Saturday and/or Sunday, to shuttle product and materials between the distribution center and production on a 24/7 basis.

  • Complete small package paperwork for carriers such as UPS and FedEx and perform related computer data entry for small packages where applicable.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.

  • Comply with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies, rules, and regulatory requirements.

  • Promptly report unsafe conditions, practices, or environmental concerns to supervision and assist in resolving potential hazards.

  • Attend scheduled EHS trainings and actively support the organization in achieving or surpassing EHS goals.

  • Identify opportunities to improve EHS practices and recommend enhancements to support a safe work environment.

  • Demonstrate safe work habits, including correct lifting and bending techniques, proper ergonomics, correct use of equipment, and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.

  • Follow FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) related to food contact packaging as they apply to the role.

  • Maintain good housekeeping by keeping the work area clutter-free and performing general cleaning.

  • Follow product safety standards, comply with product defense standards, and adhere to all SQF requirements.

  • Perform other distribution and warehouse duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Proven ability to operate a forklift safely to load, unload, move, and position products within a warehouse environment.

  • Experience working in warehouse distribution operations, including loading and unloading trucks and handling incoming and outgoing shipments.

  • Ability to use RF scanners, bar code-oriented equipment, and hand-held or tethered data collection devices for inventory and shipment verification.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order pulling, counting, weighing, and measuring of items against distribution documents such as bills of lading and orders.

  • Familiarity with inventory control practices, including cycle counts and assisting with physical inventory.

  • Ability to follow and apply standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling, repacking, and documenting damaged product.

  • Commitment to safety, including adherence to EHS policies, reporting unsafe conditions, and following Lockout/Tagout procedures.

  • Ability to follow FDA GMPs related to food contact packaging and comply with product safety and quality standards.

  • Capability to maintain good housekeeping and an organized work area in a warehouse setting.

  • Reliable and consistent attendance, including availability to work scheduled weekends as needed to support operations.

  • Basic computer skills to complete small package shipping paperwork and data entry for carriers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Customer service mindset when handling internal and external distribution needs.

  • Experience working with small package carriers such as UPS and FedEx.

  • Familiarity with SQF requirements and product defense standards in a food-related packaging or distribution environment.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume warehouse setting.

  • Strong communication skills to report issues, coordinate with supervision, and support team goals.

  • Comfort working with standard warehouse equipment and following detailed written procedures.

Work Environment

This role is based in a distribution and warehouse facility that can be hot in the summer and cooler in the winter. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with a 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a 2nd shift from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with additional weekend hours as needed to support 24/7 product shuttling. You work around forklifts, warehouse racking, and bar code scanning equipment, and you use RF scanners, hand-held and tethered data collection devices, and standard computer systems for shipping and inventory tasks. The environment emphasizes strict safety practices, including the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to Lockout/Tagout procedures, as well as strong housekeeping standards to keep work areas clean and organized.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mcdonough, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
