Definition

The Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) strives to make Columbus, Ohio the safest big city in the country. In cohesion with the city’s vision, OVP promotes a comprehensive strategy that coordinates the efforts between violence prevention initiatives through program assessment and community impact measurement.

POSITION DEFINITION:

Under Administrative direction, the Strategy Manager- Operations leads the Office of Violence Prevention's fiscal and operational strategy by overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, and the full lifecycle of contracts and grants. Beyond fiscal duties, the individual supervises operations and support staff, optimizing workflows and managing performance through coaching and administrative oversight to ensure peak efficiency. As a vital link between departments, they serve as the HR and payroll liaison and collaborate with the data & policy coordinator to guide policy strategies for violence reduction. Performs related duties as required. Throughout these responsibilities, the role maintains a highly responsive and professional demeanor to provide an exceptional customer experience that reflects positively on the City of Columbus, the Office of the Mayor, and the OVP Executive Director.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Prior supervisory experience. Certification in violence reduction. Experience working for a governmental agency, non-profit, or community-based organization. Fluency in a language other than English, preferably Spanish or an Afro-Asiatic language.

Candidate has a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Political Science, Communications, Social Science, or a related field. Has a minimum of five years of experience working in the community in the violence reduction, criminal justice, or adjacent field. Is adept at understanding the social, developmental, economic, cultural, and legislative issues and trends that affect the City of Columbus and targeted communities. Has strong relationship management, mediation, and conflict management skills. Experienced with financial and budgetary management. Has the ability to navigate resources to achieve desired outcomes. Has strong oral and written communications skills; reliable and punctual; motivated; interest in city activities and services, and how they impact the community; familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Examples of Work

Leads the development and formulation of special projects, programs, or policy;

Evaluates the successfulness of a special project or program in accordance with standards, requirements, and expectations and recommends changes as necessary;

Serves as liaison between the Offices of the Mayor and the community, special interest groups, and City departments pertaining to the special project or program;

Coordinates the recruitment and selection of community partners and stakeholders and leads the operation or function of an initiative, special program, or project;

Prepares narrative, technical, or statistical reports providing details of the special program or project;

Coordinates and manages the daily support activities of assigned employees or contractors; evaluates staffing to provide coverage and meet applicable work deadlines;

Determines budget requirement for the introduction or continued operation of a special program or project;

Keeps the immediate supervisor informed in a timely manner of all situations that could affect the accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives;

Leads in the resolution of inquiries from assigned employees and community stakeholders regarding initiatives and special projects, policies and procedures, rules and regulations, City code, or departmental programs or functions;

May serve as media liaison for one or more of the Offices of the Mayor;

May supervise subordinate staff.
