TEKsystems Lead Payroll Business Analyst in Columbus, Ohio

Description

The Lead Payroll Business Analyst serves as a strategic execution and enablement partner within Payroll Operations, supporting enterprise payroll initiatives, compliance efforts, and continuous improvement programs. This role works closely with payroll leadership to lead audits, drive process improvement initiatives, manage project execution, and provide clear status reporting and insights across payroll workstreams.

This position requires deep payroll knowledge, strong analytical and project management skills, and the ability to flex across priorities.

Payroll Audit, Compliance & Process Improvement Leadership

• Help lead and coordinate payroll audit and compliance initiatives, including process reviews, control assessments, and remediation tracking, in partnership with Payroll leadership and key stakeholders.

• Drive process improvement efforts across payroll operations to improve accuracy, compliance, and scalability.

• Support payroll compliance reviews related to federal, state, and local regulations, internal controls, and audit readiness.

• Assist with document and maintain process flows, controls, and SOPs to support consistency, transparency, and operational maturity.

Project & Initiative Management

• Own and manage internal payroll projects and initiatives end to end, including scope definition, timelines, dependencies, risk tracking, and execution.

• Partner with Payroll leadership to prioritize initiatives and ensure alignment with strategic payroll objectives.

• Flex across initiatives as business needs evolve, providing hands on support where needed to ensure successful delivery.

Status Reporting & Executive Ready Communication

• Develop and deliver weekly status reporting for payroll initiatives, audits, and operational priorities, clearly communicating progress, risks, and next steps.

• Support leadership with slide design, storytelling, and visual reporting to effectively communicate payroll initiatives and outcomes.

Data Analysis, Reporting & Decision Support

• Partner with payroll teams to support data preparation, analysis, and reporting needed for audits, leadership reviews, and operational decision making.

• Create and maintain Excel based reporting, trackers, and analytical tools to support payroll initiatives and immediate reporting needs.

• Leverage payroll knowledge and analytical skills to identify trends, risks, and insights that inform leadership decisions.

Operational Enablement & Stakeholder Support

• Act as a payroll knowledge resource to support teams during audits, projects, and process changes, along with hands on support to payroll leadership and teams during peak periods, audits, or initiatives.

• Partner cross functionally with HR, Finance, Tax, Benefits, IT, and vendors to support payroll initiatives and information requests.

• Assist with invoice management, supporting tracking, validation, and issue resolution as needed.

• Flex across payroll workstreams based on immediate business needs — this role is expected to shift focus as priorities change.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • 6-8 years of payroll experience in a multi-state, high-volume environment required

  • Demonstrated experience leading payroll audits, process improvement initiatives, or cross functional projects

  • Strong working knowledge of payroll systems and payroll operations (ADP experience preffered)

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
