Job Summary

Join a hands‑on engineering team driving real mission impact - an internship where you’ll solve problems, build tech, and grow fast. We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 (May 18 – early Aug) . This position is 100% onsite located in Columbus, Ohio . The application deadline is March 12th, 2026.

The Defense & Materials Solutions group is made up of engineers, designers, technicians, scientists and analysts contracted by the US Government to develop unique solutions to design challenges that often border on the impossible. The Electrical Engineering Intern will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary teams that we form around each project.

Our team-based approach means you will work side-by-side with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Materials Scientists and other disciplines needed for each project under time and budget restrictions to deliver specialized equipment for a variety of government and commercial customers. Your coworkers will range from other co-ops and new graduates all the way to those with 30+ years of experience. The unique backgrounds and work experiences brought by each team member lends diversity to the development process, which results in both product innovation as well as an engaging work environment.

The successful candidate is curious and creative in problem solving and self-motivated to execute tasks and report on their status. She/he are expected to persistently pursue the best solution to technical challenges through application of their own skills and by seeking and leveraging the inputs of collaborators.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will envision, design, and test devices and systems for defense applications including:

  • Performing assignments of moderate complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for computing systems, components, equipment, and networks

  • Support hardware builds by assisting with wiring, harnessing, PCB assembly, and integration of electrical components into production systems.

  • Perform testing and troubleshooting on electrical subsystems, using meters, scopes, and diagnostic tools to verify performance and resolve issues.

  • Update and create engineering documentation, including schematics, drawings, test procedures, and build notes to support repeatable production.

  • Collaborate with cross‑discipline engineers (mechanical, software, manufacturing) to ensure seamless system integration and improve build reliability.

Key Qualifications

  • Must be currently pursuing bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.

  • Foundational coursework in circuits, electronics, or embedded systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation

  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based engineering environment

  • Must be sole U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with wiring standards such as SAE AS50881 or SAE AS4461

  • Previous hands‑on experience with prototyping, electrical assembly, or lab/test environments

  • Experience with ECAD or schematic design tools (e.g., Altium)

  • Basic understanding of power distribution, electrical connectors, or system integration
