Scope of Position
Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Pharmacy Informatics, this position will develop, test, train, maintain, and support clinical systems used in medication management and related pharmacy automation with primary focus on accuracy of medication information. The position is a member of the Pharmacy Informatics Team, which serves the pharmacy enterprise. The pharmacy enterprise consists of the following: Inpatient and outpatient areas of University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital East, James Cancer Hospital, Harding Hospital, Brain and Spine Hospital, and Dodd Davis Rehabilitation Hospital. OSU Physician Group and The Ohio State Outpatient Pharmacy are also considered part of the pharmacy enterprise. The pharmacy enterprise has a close affiliation with all of the health sciences colleges, most importantly the College of Pharmacy. The pharmacy enterprise contributes to the academic and research mission of the university by training residents, publishing peer-reviewed papers, and precepting pharmacy student hours of experiential education.
Position Summary
The Clinical Applications Pharmacist focuses on pharmacy data analytics, with responsibilities spanning data engineering and business analysis. The pharmacist in this role is responsible for the development, validation, and ongoing maintenance of clinical outcomes metrics relevant to pharmacy practice, as well as the execution of operational and performance analyses to support decision‑making. Work in this role requires close collaboration with pharmacy leaders and enterprise analytics partners to ensure data accuracy, appropriate data modeling, and meaningful interpretation of results. Assigned areas of focus will include specialty pharmacy, with the potential to expand to infusion and ambulatory pharmacy services.
Key responsibilities include:
Apply pharmacy expertise to identify essential data elements and integrate data from multiple sources for analytics and reporting needs.
Collaborate with the Enterprise Data Warehouse to establish authoritative pharmacy data models in Caboodle.
Enable self-service reporting for pharmacy users by providing education and training, with a focus on promoting SlicerDicer utilization.
Curate and maintain Tableau dashboards for priority areas, including 340B and OSU Outpatient Pharmacy.
Serve as an Honest Broker for pharmacy research data requests, guiding departments through the data request process and ensuring compliance.
The Clinical Applications Pharmacist needs to be knowledgeable in various aspects of information systems terminology, information system processing, and desktop solutions. In addition, the Clinical Applications Pharmacist will be familiar with OSUWMC pharmacy operations, policies, and procedures, and stay current with developments and issues in the practice of pharmacy. The Clinical Applications Pharmacist needs to be able to set priorities and work independently. The Clinical Applications Pharmacist will contribute to a positive team culture.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed pharmacist in good standing with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. A minimum of four years of professional experience in information technology and/or healthcare is required. A B.Sc. in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) is required. Post-graduate residency training is preferred. Active Epic Cogito certifications in Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model and Clinical Data Model required. Scholarship and teaching experience will be regarded favorably.
