Job Title: Construction Materials Technician
Job Description
We are seeking Construction Materials Testing Technicians to support construction projects in Central Ohio. As part of an industry-leading engineering firm, the Technician will be responsible for performing tests and inspections on building materials such as concrete, soil, asphalt, and aggregates to ensure compliance with project specifications and codes. This role requires fieldwork on construction and infrastructure sites, and candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. The position involves local travel using a company truck or personal vehicle.
Responsibilities
Perform material testing of soils, aggregates, asphalt concrete, and concrete at the time of placement on active construction sites.
Interpret specifications and working drawings.
Conduct field inspection, testing, sampling, and maintain equipment on assigned projects.
Obtain and record field data in a legible and organized manner as required by the project plans and specifications.
Generate and compile field reports.
Record daily installed construction quantities.
Communicate effectively with team members, including contractors and owner’s representatives, to keep everyone fully informed.
Essential Skills
Construction materials testing experience is preferred.
ODOT Asphalt Level 2 Technician certification strongly preferred.
Familiarity with American Concrete Institute (ACI) certifications, including Field Testing Technician, Aggregate Testing Technician, and Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
Knowledge of nuclear density gauge operation.
High school diploma required.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Flexibility to work variable schedules, long hours, and weekends as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
NICET and other relevant certifications are a plus.
Previous experience with ODOT or private development construction projects is advantageous.
Willingness to obtain additional certifications with company support.
Work Environment
The role involves working on construction sites year-round, with exposure to outdoor conditions. Candidates must be prepared for a variable schedule that occasionally requires overtime and weekend work. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
