Position Overview

The Division of Anatomy at Ohio State University College of Medicine (OSUMC) in Columbus, OH invites applications for Lecturer, Assistant or Associate Professor Rank full-time faculty position with a specific focus on Undergraduate anatomy. Qualified candidates are expected to have earned a doctorate in Anatomy or related field and possess a strong record of excellence in undergraduate education, administration and pedagogy. The candidate should have teaching experience with expertise in human gross anatomy and be capable of potentially teaching courses including: 1) dissection, 2) histology 3) embryology and/or 4) neuroanatomy, with the potential to contribute to other electives within the Anatomy Minor Program. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong record of scholarly activity that includes peer-reviewed publications commensurate with their level of development and engage in collaborative research. Our goal is to create an integrated undergraduate bachelor’s experience, including lecture, lab, and scholarship.

Performance Objectives

  • Full-time teaching load in undergraduate anatomy lecture and laboratory courses with a specific focus in human anatomy. Responsibilities will include collaborating with other faculty on curriculum development within anatomy courses in a team-based environment.

  • Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional students in research projects in the applicant’s area of expertise.

  • No clinical responsibilities or efforts are afforded for this position.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required :

  • Doctorate in the anatomical sciences or equivalent.

  • Evidence of familiarity with human dissection-based teaching.

  • Evidence of potential for successful teaching at the college/university level.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interprofessional skills.

  • An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, and administrators to develop improvement of educational experiences for our students.

Desired :

  • Preference will be given to those applicants with human laboratory instructional experience.

  • Preference will be given to those candidates who have evidence of strong collaboration in education with other applied academic health sciences departments.

OSUWMC is home to over 20 research centers and institutes and 25 core research laboratories that promote collaboration among experts from virtually all colleges, departments and divisions of Ohio State University. Department Information

The mission of the Division of Anatomy is to provide innovative, world-class research and educational opportunities in the Anatomic Sciences. Construction of a new Anatomy Institute at The OSUWMC was completed in January of 2022. This highly innovative and IT- enhanced space includes a new 3,750 square-foot morgue with seven independent laboratory spaces for undergraduate, graduate, medical and dental anatomy as well as specialized laboratories for undergraduate, outreach and medical and dental continuing education programming. The Anatomy Institute represented the first component of a new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center that was completed in 2024 as part of an innovative model for health sciences education, which creates an environment that fosters the experiences and opportunities necessary for individuals to grow and become tomorrow’s health care leaders.

The new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center includes a new 59,400 square-foot Classroom Wing and back renovation of historic Hamilton Hall providing a 225,000 square-foot inter-professional learning facility composed of 33 interdisciplinary, state-of-the-art technology enhanced classrooms, 6,000 square foot student forum, 125-seat Grand Reading Room, 75-person computer center for interdisciplinary student-faculty use and numerous private study rooms and small collaboration spaces. This space also includes new office space designed to house the OSUMC Biomedical Education and Anatomy leadership, faculty and staff including specifically designed office space for Anatomy Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants. The four-story glass atrium health sciences forum overlooks a newly designed Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Quadrangle that provides an outdoor focal point that unites medical, dental, nursing, optometry, and the allied health sciences into a truly interdisciplinary health sciences campus
