CLASS TITLE: Weed Control SprayerDEPARTMENT:Weed DistrictACCOUNTABLE TO: Weed District Coordinator and Weed BoardFLSA STATUS:Non-ExemptREVISION DATE:October 23, 2025JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision performs tasks relating to noxious weed control. Work varies little; individual judgment may be required within prescribed standards and procedures.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•Performs tasks related to the spraying of weeds and in the use of chemicals; •Calibrates dispensing equipment; •Performs minor repairs and maintenance to equipment and vehicles; •Maintains accurate Daily Application Records of pesticides and herbicides used, work performed, and coordinates with the Coordinator daily; •Keeps accurate records of the weather and susceptible crops in the area worked; •Knows and follows all safety procedures in the use of vehicles, equipment, breathing apparatus, PPE and chemicals.•Initiates routine daily operational records and reports; •Is responsible for equipment and supplies assigned; •Requires contact with the public and other County departments where tact and diplomacy are necessary; •Works with some hazards with chemicals and follows the pesticide label;•Duties may require work to be performed in undesirable weather conditions; and•Performs such other duties as may be required. SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: •Must meet all legal requirements to work with and apply restricted use pesticides, which includes meeting the minimum age requirement under federal and state law (currently 18).•Some work experience. Farm background or previous spraying experience helpful. •Must possess a valid Montana Driver’s License;•Must be qualified to be a licensed Applicator under the Weed Control Coordinator’s Pesticide Licenses, or be able to obtain such a license.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:•Work performed primarily outdoors in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.•Frequent walking over uneven terrain such as fields, pastures, ditches, hillsides, and rights-of-way.•Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and reaching to perform spraying and maintenance tasks.•Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull containers, equipment, or materials weighing up to 50 pounds (greater with assistance).•Prolonged sitting and operation of motor vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, or spray trucks.•Regular exposure to pesticides and other chemicals; must use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).•Possible exposure to dust, pollen, insects, noxious weeds, thorns, and other environmental irritants.•May work alone in remote areas with limited supervision for extended periods.•Noise exposure from equipment, pumps, and vehicles.•Contact with landowners, the public, and other agencies where tact and professionalism are required.•Weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required during peak spraying season.
